What did Jeremy Clarkson say that was so wrong

The BBC report that:
"Scottish politicians have reacted angrily to comments made by Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson about Gordon Brown.

Speaking to journalists in Sydney, the presenter reportedly called the prime minister a "one-eyed Scottish idiot".

Gordon Banks, Labour MP for Ochil and South Perthshire, said the remark was "unforgivable". Scottish Labour leader Iain Gray also criticised Clarkson. "

I don't see the problem, let's check the comment against the facts:
"one-eyed" - Gordon Brown is indeed blind in one eye
"Scottish" - Gordon Brown is undoubtedly Scottish
"idiot" - Gordon Brown is in many people's eyes a complete and utter idiot. After all what else would you call a man who tells the markets that he is going to sell a couple of tons of gold on a certain day? I would say that "idiot" is quite mild.

So "one-eyed Scottish idiot" seems quite a descriptive phrase to use to describe Gordon Brown; I have seen him called far worse...

Where I do take issue with Jeremy Clarkson is in his follow-up comment, apparently he said:
"He keeps telling us everything's fine and he's saved the world and we know he's lying, but he's smooth at telling us."

It's the last part of the sentence, the part between the comma and the full-stop; Gordon Brown is not smooth, Tony Blair was smooth, Gordon Brown is anything but smooth.

An interesting thought: why the fuss over Grdon Brown being called an idiot when week after week after week for the last five or more years George W. Bush has been called an idiot or a moron on the News Quiz and other topical panel shows. The same went more recently for Sarah Palin.

Be fair, he did cause offence to many.

The National Society of Village Idiots is up-in-arms at the insult to well-meaning thick people everywhere.

Boo bloody hoo, Clarkson's done it again. He's made fun of someone in the public domain. So he called Gordon Brown a "one-eyed Scottish idiot", so what. He's just having a go, a quick joke for quick laugh. It's hardly a pre-emptive strike in an England vs Scotland race war.

clarkson did nothing worse than stand up comedians do on a daily basis, he wasnt launching a personal attack against brown or scotland, (or one eyed people). people who complain about these things need a better hobby. being a politician for many years im sure gordon brown wouldnt have become prime minister if he cried at every comment made about him. he will be used to pressure and bad press, bush was mockedconstantly for his whole time in office for being an idiot. clarckson also wasnt saying he was an idiot for being scottish or one eyed he was describing brown so the audience would know who he was ridiculing. anyone who gets offended at these things needs a sense-of-humour transplant.
