Rolf Harris guilty of indecent assaults

The 84-year-old was convicted of 12 attacks between 1968 and 1986.'

'What are the central pillars of jihadist ideology? Where does it fit within the history and theology of Islam? What are the jihadists' goals? What are they prepared to do to achieve them?

They could begin to find answers in "The Mind of Jihad," a book written seven years ago by the late Laurent Murawiec for the Pentagon's director of net assessment. Murawiec explained that jihad implies "warfare with spiritual significance." He added that the concept "stems irrefutably ?from the Quran," and that jihad cannot be seen — as so many of its apologists contend — as "a response to "colonial aggression,' 'imperialist encroachments,' 'Zionist intrusion' or "American ?crimes.'"

Jihad was the primary means by which the great Islamic empires of antiquity expanded their borders until, starting in the 1100s, European scientific and military developments began to shift the power equation, and Christian empires started to encroach "into lands that had long been ?conquered and ruled by Muslims."

Over the centuries that followed, Islamic warriors increasingly found themselves on the defensive. "But as soon as some in the umma [the transnational Muslim community] could nurture again the belief that jihad could be victorious again, that the balance of forces would again favor the umma, sizeable groups and schools of thought went back to the offensive."

Murawiec saw clearly that we are now in such an era. Within the Muslim world, "sizeable groups and schools of thought" view the West as weakening, in decline, unwilling and maybe unable to defend itself. They further believe that Muslims have a religious obligation to exploit this opportunity to expand "the writ and word of Allah."

"Modern jihad," as Murawiec called it, "erupted in full force with the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979 in both the Shiite and the Sunni world." Thousands of jihadist attacks have followed ?over the years since.'

Global Warming Study Ridiculed After Temperatures DROP

'A UK Met Office study that predicted temperatures would rise by up to half a degree centigrade over the past 10 years faces ridicule after it was revealed that temperatures actually dropped over that period.

The peer-reviewed study by Doug M. Smith et al, entitled "Improved Surface Temperature Prediction for the Coming Decade from a Global Climate Model" – and which featured in the journal Science – also incorrectly predicted that several years over the past decade would see record heat.

The paper says:
"…predict further warming during the coming decade, with the year 2014 predicted to be 0.30° ± 0.21°C [5 to 95% confidence interval (CI)] warmer than the observed value for 2004. Furthermore, at least half of the years after 2009 are predicted to be warmer than 1998, the warmest year currently on record."

However, now we are able to analyse the data on how temperatures really changed, we can see that there was actually a cooling of 0.014 degrees over the past 10 years, which is below even the lowest estimate.

Also, not a single year was warmer than 1998, despite the paper predicting that at least three years would be.'

BMA GP leader Dr Chaand Nagpaul said "chronic underfunding" meant patients were often having to wait one or two weeks for an appointment.'

Why I support Israel

A spokesperson for United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon said Tuesday night that the UN has no "concrete evidence" that Eyal Yifrah, 19, Naftali Frenkel, 16, and Gilad Sha'ar, 16, were "actually" kidnapped by Hamas terrorists last Thursday.

The spokesperson, Farhan Haq, was quoted by Voice of Israel public radio as saying the UN does not have an independent investigative unit that could confirm the kidnapping.

Making Haq's words more confusing is the fact that Ban already condemned the kidnapping on Saturday, noting particularly that two of the kidnapped Israeli students are minors.

An explanation could be that Farhan Haq is of Pakistani Muslim origin. Is he?

US-made Stinger missiles fall into ISIS hands

'U.S. officials with access to the latest U.S. intelligence on Iraq told Fox News it "appears likely/probable" that U.S.-made Stinger missiles have fallen into the hands of Sunni insurgents.

It is possible that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) fighters acquired them from army bases they have taken over in recent days, the sources said.

The Stinger missile is a shoulder-fired surface-to-air weapon that is used against aircraft.'

Maybe flying to India and the Far East has just become a little more risky.

Over the weekend @Wotsit4 seemingly revealed some of his true nature. One tweet referring to 'Jew girls' and another blaming Mossad for 9/11.

He tried to excuse the former by claiming lack of space, have a look at the original tweet, what do you think? When pressed regarding the latter tweet, with me pointing out that Al Qaeda were happy to claim responsibility/credit for 9/11, not a word came back.

I don't normally stop engaging with offensive idiots on Twitter but @Wotsit4 has already admitted that he just enjoys winding me up and I see no reason to let him carry on trying. In addition I fear for his health, on Saturday night his tweets got angrier and angrier and a man of his age should be more careful with his health.

I've asked @Wotsit4 many times to explain why he thinks that Israel is occupying the West Bank and Gaza post 1967 but that Jordan and Egypt weren't 1948-1967 but he cannot.


So last week I gave @Wotsit4 an ultimatum, to answer my question re the West Bank and Gaza by 11am today or be #blocked. I shall be a meeting at that time but unless there is an adequate response tweeted by him to me by that time, then #blocked he will be.


Update: There was no response so he's #blocked. Someone else can deal with his hatred and stupidity.

New research conducted by the Global Tourism Monitor Survey asked a total of 23,000 holidaymakers, in 26 different countries around the world, to name the destination that they would most recommend to others based on their own travel experiences.

Those questioned as part of the survey were restricted to countries they had visited in the previous 12 months, and asked whether they would or wouldn’t tell others to follow suit.
The number of people who criticised a recent holiday destination was then subtracted from the number praising a place as visit-worthy, to produce a net score for each country.

I learnt that “Two journalists from Corriere della Sera discovered there were 72,000 official cars [in Italy], costing 1.85 billion euros annually”.

In Spain, “the airport of Ciudad Real boasts one of Europe longest runways. Its vast airy light terminal is designed to handle 5 million passengers a year. It cost nearly a billion euros. Yet there are no planes.”

During Ireland’s property boom, “In the space of 10 years, 553,000 houses had been built. Nearly 300,000 of them lay empty.” One city, Valencia in Spain, ran up a debt of 25 billion Euros.
German stability culture it wasn’t.

In a sense, the single currency – monetary union without fiscal union, let alone political union – not only helped get European countries into crisis, it has also stopped them getting out of it.
Introduced prematurely – and there is an understatement! – in 1999, the Euro was a political act by a political class-cum-bureaucracy that saw itself as the vanguard party for a European super-state. It was always about politics not economics. It was supposed to be the next stage to an "‘ever-closer union".

The one hundred and ninety second weekly "No Shit, Sherlock" award - PA President Abbas Has Two Faces for Vatican and Hamas

Anyone with any intelligence has known for years that what PA leaders say to the West, usually, in English is somewhat different from what they tell their own people in Arabic. 

'Hamas government spokesman in Gaza, Ihab al-Ghussein stated that Mahmoud Abbas was deceiving the Americans in public statements calling for peace with Israel.

In a Facebook post on June 8, al-Ghussein wrote that the Palestinian leader, Mahmoud Abbas, is "tricking" the Americans.

"When I go out and say that the [PA] government is my [Abbas] government and it recognizes 'Israel' and so on, fine – these words are meant to trick the Americans," wrote al-Ghussein.

On Sunday in Vatican City, Abbas called for a "comprehensive and just peace" with Israel during a joint-peace prayer with Pope Francis, who recently visited the Jewish state, and Israeli President Shimon Peres.
 

"O Lord, bring comprehensive and just peace to our country and region so that our people and the peoples of the Middle East and the whole world would enjoy the fruit of peace, stability and coexistence," Abbas stated during a ceremony where he planted an olive tree together with Peres in the Vatican gardens.

But on the same day, al-Ghussein wrote in Arabic on his Facebook page – as documented by Palestinian Media Watch – that Abbas's real intentions behind his public declarations are very different.
 

"You know what Mahmoud Abbas says behind closed doors? He says: 'Guys, let me [continue] saying what I say to the media. Those words are meant for the Americans the occupation (i.e. Israel), not for you [Hamas]," wrote al-Ghussein.

"What's important is that we agree on among ourselves," the Hamas spokesman reported Abbas as saying.

Al-Ghussein himself called for "jihad" against Israel recently. In an interview with Al-Monitor on May 25 al-Ghussein stated that it was not logical that Palestinians travel to Syria to perform "jihad" following reports of a young Palestinian man from the Gaza Strip was killed during battle in Syria.

"It's not logical that young men travel from the 'land of Rabat' [Palestine] to fight in other places. Our country needs the youth to resist Israeli occupation, and whoever wants to carry out jihad and resistance, then here lies the land of jihad and resistance," said al-Ghussein.

Earlier this year in January, a senior member PA's President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah party, Jibril Rajoub told an Iranian TV station, Al-Alam,  during an official visit to Tehran, that the "The option of resistance, including armed resistance, remains on the table."

Fifa sponsors back 2022 inquiry, apart from one...

The BBC report that:

'Football's world governing body Fifa is under growing pressure from a number of sponsors after its decision to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar.

Sony, Adidas, Coca-Cola, Visa and Hyundai/Kia have expressed concern over claims of wrongdoing in the bidding process.

In total, five of Fifa's six main sponsors have issued statements relating to the Qatar bid.

Only airline Emirates has so far declined to comment.

Oil company BP and the maker of Budweiser beer, who also sponsor the World Cup, have also registered their concerns.'

London Live add another great show to their roster

London Live TV (Sky 117) has been getting a lot of stick since its launch and apparently has very low viewing figures. For a lot of the time I can understand why, just look at the schedules. However it does also show four really great shows:

1. Coupling - Steven Moffat's master-work of three series from 2000 to 2004 and a dodgy series four. A genius comedy series with some great acting, some poor acting but always very very funny, and sometimes toe-curlingly embarrassing. You must watch this series, if not on London Live then buy the DVD. I have previously blogged about Series 1, Episode 5 'The Girl with Two Breasts' - Shadayim... and Series 3, Epsiode 1 "Split" is another that you must watch. The series starred Jack Davenport, Sarah Alexander, Gina Bellman, Kate Isitt, Ben Miles and Richard Coyle. This was a programme about relationships, sex and misunderstandings.

2. Spaced - Simon Pegg's great TV slacker comedy series with a heart and numerous popular culture (mainly sci-fi) references. Simon Pegg is great but to my mind Jessica Stevenson steals the show, along with Colin (the dog). A wonderful great programme but not really lending itself to video extracts, but this should give you a flavour...

3. Smack The Pony - The brilliant sketch show that didn't receive the recognition that it deserved. The stars of this programme included Fiona Allen, Doon Mackichan, Sally Phillips, Sarah Alexander and Darren Boyd. With a mostly female cast this show was often portrayed as some sort of feminist programme, to me it was just very very funny.

The article concerns a young man who spat in a railway ticket inspector's face when asked for the valid train ticket that he did not have. Being modern post Labour Britain, there was no custodial sentence passed. You can read the whole story at the link above.

'He was formerly a successful young man who had achieved much in school and was a highly thought of young member of the local Labour Party.'

Just a few extremists?

We are told by the vast majority of politicians, self-appointed community leaders and the left-wing dominated dhimmi media that most Muslims are moderate and don't support stoning adulterers or killing apostates.

There's an example here where the quoted fact is simply ignored and the 'vast majority' claims are made over and over again....

Hidden away in the BBC's newspaper review

Hidden away in the BBC's newspaper review here are two interesting items that won't be headline news on the BBC itself.

First 

'Firms make a "killing" from Private Finance Initiatives awarded under Labour, says the Independent. Companies given contracts to build and maintain schools for 25 years are doubling their money by selling them on, it says.'  

This is 'no shit, Sherlock' territory but if this could be laid at the door of the Conservative lead government then this would be headline news on the BBC where the bile would be flowing over 'privatisation'. However as it relates to Labour PFI contracts, you can expect the story to receive very little attention.

The second story is on similar lines 

'... the i, reports that contractors have made £300m in profits, with contracts for NHS hospitals also being sold off. It quotes former Labour minister Margaret Hodge admitting: "We got it wrong".' 

Now usually if Margaret Hodge has something to say, then the BBC are eager to give her whatever platform she needs. But that's when she's attacking the Conservative lead Coalition government, as this is a Labour mea culpa, expect no such platform to be given. 

The BBC where the subtitle is 'vote Labour'.

It's another 'man'  story on the BBC.

'A Frenchman has been arrested at a train station in Marseille over a fatal shooting at the Jewish Museum in Brussels eight days ago.'

A French man?

Let's read on:

'Mehdi Nemmouche, 29, is being held on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

He was reportedly carrying a Kalashnikov rifle and a handgun similar to the ones used in the May 24 attack.

Three people were killed while a fourth victim is critically injured.

Security was tightened at Jewish sites across Belgium following the attack.'

Why would a Frenchman do this, no clues so far.

Let's read on:

'Mr Nemmouche, a French national who is believed to be from the northern town of Roubaix, is also suspected of having been with Islamists militants in Syria last year.'

He fought with Islamists, is he an Islamist then? A Muslim?
