Miliband claimed in front of the European Scrutiny Committee that the 5 year limitation on the red lines was not true. Now Jeremy Paxman is quizzing Michael Connarty MP, the Chairman of the Scrutiny Committee) and he is explaining that the 5 year rule was added as a new clause and is querying why it was accepted by the UK government.
Now Jim Murphy, Foreign Office minister (Minister for Europe), is claiming that despite the European Scrutiny Committee's findings we will not be bound by the Justice and Home Affairs areas of the Treaty. Jim Murphy has accepted that in 20 areas we are giving away power as we move from unanimity to qualified majority voting.
Not a long enough piece and Paxman wasn't tough enough on Mr Murphy. Not a very illuminating piece.
