Research from Lancaster University reports that the "improvement" in GCSE exam results comes not from the spending of extra money but from "grade inflation". Anyone who has had to interview school leavers over the past few years will know that 10 A's at GCSE doesn't guarantee someone able to write a coherent sentence or do simple arithmetic.
