Favourite Beatles songs

The Daily Mail reveals that politicians were asked for their favourite Beatles track as part of Liverpool's Beatles Day celebration. Gordon Brown plumped for "All My Loving" which includes the line "Tomorrow I’ll miss you". David Cameron chose "The Long and Winding Road" whilst Nick Clegg picked "A Day in the Life", Alistair Darling picked "Strawberry Fields"

I would have selected "Nowhere Man" for Gordon Brown -
"He's a real nowhere Man,
Sitting in his Nowhere Land,
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.

Doesn't have a point of view,
Knows not where he's going to,

...

He's as blind as he can be,
Just sees what he wants to see,
Nowhere Man can you see me at all?"

and Taxman for Alistair Darling:
"Let me tell you how it will be,
There’s one for you, nineteen for me,
‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.
Should five per cent appear too small,
Be thankful I don’t take it all.
‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah yeah, I’m the Taxman.

(If you drive a car car), I’ll tax the street,
(If you try to sit sit), I’ll tax your seat,
(If you get too cold cold), I’ll tax the heat,
(If you take a walk walk), I’ll tax your feet.
Taxman.

‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.
Don’t ask me what I want it for
(Ah Ah! Mister Wilson!)
If you don’t want to pay some more
(Ah Ah! Mister Heath!),
‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeeeah, I’m the Taxman.

Now my advice for those who die, (Taxman!)
Declare the pennies on your eyes, (Taxman!)
‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.
And you’re working for no-one but me,
(Taxman)."

  1. Surely "Gordon is a moron" by Jilted John (Reid? ) would figure higher up the charts.
