The new Doctor Who

The new Doctor Who is to be ... "the youngest ever"... this does not bode well.

The odds at lunchtime today were according to Gallifrey One:
"ODDS FROM BETFAIR, MIDDAY 3RD JANUARY
Paterson Joseph - 31/10
Chiwetel Ejiofor - 22/5
James Nesbitt - 37/5
David Morrissey - 20/1
Billie Piper - 21/1
Aidan Gillen, Sean Pertwee - 24/1
Jack Davenport - 25/1
Ben Wishaw, Rhys Ifans, Robert Carlyle - 29/1
Colin Salmon - 43/1
Russell Tovey - 47/1
Alan Davies, Jennifer Saunders - 49/1
Richard E Grant - 54/1
John Simm - 59/1
Catherine Tate - 64/1
Richard Coyle - 79/1
Paul McGann, Jason Statham, Rowan Atkinson, Daniel Radcliffe, Stephen Fry - 99/1 "

"Youngest ever" so that knocks out Paterson Joseph but not Chiwetel Ejiofor, looks like we might be getting the first black Doctor Who, and why not.

Ah pen portraits of the Doctors:
William Hartnell - Before my time
Patrick Troughton - Never watched at the time
Jon Pertwee - My first Doctor
Tom Baker - My favourite of the original Doctor Whos
Peter Davison - The start of the end, the regeneration into PD was a real heartbreaker for me
Colin Baker - Oh dear, oh dear
Sylvester McCoy - Absolutely no comment
Paul McGann - One film
Christopher Ecclestone - Hmm, good but really because I was just glad to have my Saturday night's back
David Tennant - An excellent Doctor up there with Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker

The new Doctor Who is 26, so not Chiwetel Ejiofor. Who is this new Doctor? Ant or Dec?

Matt Smith.... Not even mentioned in the betting! Well done Steven Moffat and the Doctor Who "powers that be"...

Matt Smith is a touch Johnny Depp as Edward Scissorhands in the interview but has interesting eyes and I can see possibilities.

Picked up as favourite by Digital Spy this morning.

I still wish that they had done the regeneration with no advance publicity, the sense of drama has been lessened by the year of advance knowledge.
