"This isn't to say we don't love our kids more than life itself and consider them the alpha and omega of our existence. It's just that when it comes down to the practical, day-to-day grind of seeing them fed, watered, nappy-changed and entertained, we prefer to see the job done by the acknowledged expert in this field. The mother.
Obviously, you never say any of this to the wife because if you do, you die. This is one of the many great drawbacks of the feminist revolution: it has forced men and women into telling a great big lie about the way things really are. Women have to pretend they like slogging their guts out in an office as much as men. Men have to pretend it's a normal, healthy, desirable thing for them to blunt their abilities in a dog-eat-dog competitive world by taking on an equal number of night feeds and nappy changes as women.
Just because we all pay lip-service to this nonsense doesn't make it actually true. In their hearts, all parents know this: they see how, from about two onwards, their daughters gravitate towards dollies and pushing prams; they see how rubbish their boys are at co-operative play, nurturing and empathising. They also see, incidentally, how like a fish-out-of-water a father looks amid all the gossiping mums and au pairs at play group.
Paternity leave? It's against nature. "
I am not a sheep, I have my own mind
I have had enough of being told what and how to think
Whilst we are still allowed the remnants of free speech,
I will speak out.
I also reserve the right to discuss less controversial matters should I feel the urge.
