Gordon Brown - just a big baby?

Cristina Odone writes in The Telegraph of the time that Frank Field actually managed to sneak an audience with Gordon Brown when Frank Field was still tasked with 'thinking the unthinkable':
'Field began to articulate his vision, but before he could plead for the funds to implement it, Brown stuck his fingers in his ears, shook his head vehemently, and whimpered.

No wonder Field was fired soon after. He later, publicly, compared Brown to Mrs Rochester, ranting and raving in the attic. No wonder.'

And yet Gordon Brown stayed as Chancellor of the Exchequer and became Prime Minister, despite all the well known stories about his oddness and temper - what a country!
