It seems that turning it off and then back on again, or 'power-cycling the device' as I.T. professionals prefer to explain it, works for satellites as well.
The Register reports that:
'Intelsat bird Galaxy 15 is responding to commands again, having exhausted its batteries over eight months of uncontrolled broadcasting, thus forcing an automatic reboot.'
