is the English Defence League racist?

I am not sure, the BBC and similar portray them as such but then the Quiet Man seems to say not:
'the EDL were marching in Luton today and contained, Englishmen, Scotsmen, Irishmen, Welshmen, Dutchmen, Germans, Americans, Sikh's, Hindu's, Pakistani Christians, Jews (including a Jewish Rabbi), Gays, Lesbians, Transgenders and no doubt a good few others, all genders, all races, all nations and all creeds, even a few Muslims.'
And even offers us a photo

Just the one photo? Yes but this board has many more, here's a few...

So are the EDL racist?

  1. I'm fairly sure there are racists in the EDL, just as I'm fairly sure there are racists in the BBC, amongst Members of Parliament and other groups too. The EDL along with these other organisations do their level best to remove racists from their ranks and make them feel unwelcome on their protests and forums. However what the EDL oppose will attract a certain type of person who is more likely to be racist even though Islamists come in all shades from white to black and it is a problem for them. Still they are open and honest about their aims and what they will do to those promoting racism within their movement. Not everyone's cup of tea I know, but there's a lot more to them than meets the eye.
