What's a 'settlement'?

Dry Bones on the money as usual.

  1. Except that cities, towns and villages usually have some sort of legal status. In ancient England a settlement needed to have a church to be called a village. Everything that isn't a city, town or village is a settlement.

  2. I don't think 'settlements' in Israel will all have a church. More likely to be the case than anywhere in Saudi Arabia of course. 'Settlements' in Israel do have legal status, how big do you think some of these 'settlements' are?

  3. I think some of the "settlements" are comparable in size to small cities, and I think they are considered to be cities by Israel, but not necessarily by the Palestinians or the "international community", but on the other hand several settlements have been abandoned/evacuated.

  4. The Palestinians, or at least their leaders/rulers, deny the right of existence to all of Israel, so not a great argument.
