"I would like to pay tribute to the contribution you and your company make to the prosperity of Britain. During its one hundred and fifty year history, Lehman Brothers has always been an innovator, financing new ideas and inventions before many others even began to realise their potential. And it is part of the greatness not just of Lehman Brothers but of the City of London, that as the world economy has opened up, you have succeeded not by sheltering your share of a small protected national market but always by striving for a greater and greater share of the growing global market."The Telegraph today reports that:
"The Prime Minister, who has presided over a dramatic collapse in Labour's popularity and a string of political, economic and bureaucratic disasters, is facing light-hearted suggestions that his endorsement of the collapsed Wall Street firm became a curse. The Telegraph also reports some of Gordon "Jonah" Brown's previous negative effects:
Even the New York Times is now repeating a joke circulating on the internet that blames Mr Brown for "hexing" Lehman Bros by opening its London headquarters in 2004."
"In his early months as Prime Minister in 2007, Mr Brown was accused of carrying a sporting curse. In a few weeks, he attended three matches by the England football and rugby teams and the Scottish football side - all lost.... Earlier this month, after Andy Murray qualified for the final of the US Open, Mr Brown wrote to his fellow Scot to "send you our best wishes."
Murray's earlier run of form subsequently deserted him and he lost the final in straight sets."
Gordon Brown has been a disaster for the UK as a whole and seems to carry with him his own little rain cloud.
If by some chance one bumps into Gordon Brown how should one protect oneself from certain personal disaster?
