'A disabled caravanner who kept a penknife in his glove compartment to use on picnics has blasted the authorities after being dragged through court for possessing an offensive weapon.Quite ridiculous. I carry a penknife in my work case, have done for years, I also carry several screwdrivers and occasionally more tools. Am I guilty of carrying offensive weapons? If so then so are dozens of men that I know.
Rodney Knowles, 61, walks with the aid of a stick and had used the Swiss Army knife to cut up fruit on picnics with his wife.
Knowles yesterday admitted possessing an offensive weapon at Torquay Magistrates Court. He was given a conditional discharge.
But speaking after the hearing, he said: 'It's a stupid law. Now I have a criminal record.''

How can it be offensive? It is Swiss for godsake.
You could probably do more damage with a large stick of Toblerone and a large lump of Gruyere.
Not just men either, I also carry a penknife, scissors, nail clippers and a screwdriver in my handbag
Allison,
A screwdriver ? Let me resist making an Andy Gray joke !
But, the British police ceased to amaze me years ago. What a bunch of plonkers.
The answer is yes, you are guilty, because it's a strict liability offence - you have the knife, you're guilty, end of. No defences, no excuses, no justifications.
Usual Nu Lab shite, in other words.
Possibly the police had other reasons for stopping him..... http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2011/02/02/child-rapist-sentenced-to-20-years-in-prison-after-claiming-he-was-harassed-by-police-115875-22892232/
