Alistair Darling's admission that the UK economy was well and truly fucked, I paraphrase slightly, seems to have been an attempt to get his attack in whilst he still can. Rumours abound today that the "plan" for the government to encourage and fund local councils to buy houses that were to be repossessed via a joint-ownership scheme was a Gordon Brown "devised" scheme and opposed by Alistair Darling.
There appear to be severe differences of opinion as to the state of the UK economy, or more accurately differences of opinion over what the poor public should be told about the state of the UK economy; I think Number 10 and Number 11 realise the UK economy is well and truly screwed but whilst Alistair Darling wants to be "straight" with the public, Gordon Brown it seems does not. The Gordon Brown non-straight team seem to include Yvette Cooper, ostensibly Alistair Darling's Number Two, but don't forget married to Gordon Brown's real Number Two, Ed "So what" Balls. The Gordon Brown team are moving further and further into the bunker mentality and the results of this are unlikely to be pretty.
