They will be monitored to ensure that children attend school, go to bed on time and eat proper meals."We already knew of the plans for television screens in the streets to cover the 2012 Olympics, initially to play news and sport but who knows for what purpose after that. Now we have the first two way screens in people's homes that will allow the "Thought Police" to monitor the actions of citizens 24 hours a day. I wonder if like the "telescreens" in 1984 they will always be on and if they will be spouting government messages all day long. This Labour government really does scare me and Ed Balls scares me more than most.

Yes, the scariest image in '1984' wasn't the rats. It was Winston Smith's room, with its all-seeing wide-screen TV watching your every move (and watching your bed) & the helicopters peering in your window. I've never quite escaped from that nightmarish image, and the idea that it's coming to this country is truly stomach-turning.
