George Galloway handed his arse on a plate

George Galloway shown up for what he is by the David Henshaw from Channel 4's Dispatches programme 'Undercover Mosque: The Return'. George Galloway loves to ridicule the interviewees with whom he disagrees but I think you'll agree that in this case he failed miserably.

You can see more about this very revealing programme here on my blog.

100% right but for 100% the wrong reason

I understand that the Egyptian culture minister, Farouk Hosny, has been defeated in his bid to become UNESCO's cultural head, beaten to the role by the Bulgarian Irina Bokova. I heard that Farouk Hosny then made what I thought was an obvious but nonetheless 100% correct statement when he accused the United Nations of becoming "politicised".

However Farouk Hosny then blotted his copybook with his assertion that he lost because of "Zionist pressures". Those pesky Zionists get everywhere, don't they?

You may remember Farouk Hosny, he's the delightful character who last year said he would burn "Israeli books in Egyptian libraries". Culture Minister? I suppose in Egypt remarks like that run in his favour as much as to his detriment.

The United Nations is becoming dominated by an Islamic/African bloc which singles out the only democratic, multi-racial country in the Middle East with freedom of religious worship for all, Israel, for censure whilst ignoring the inequities and crimes against humanity perpetrated by many of the bloc's members.

George Galloway

Iain Dale has some video of George Galloway's "interview" with David Henshaw from Dispatches' "Undercover Mosque" programme. It's worth a watch but here is a fuller version of the interview that I posted last September.

Isn't George Galloway a simply delightful chap? Do take a look at my other mentions of this wonderful human being.

George Galloway trying to wriggle and failing

Watch this video and see George Galloway wriggle, not answer several key questions and make several allegations that I think might be of interest to the people he makes them against. Congratulations to David Henshaw from Dispatches' "Undercover Mosque" programme for treating George Galloway with all due respect.

Undercover Mosque (the return)

Tonight at 8pm London time, Channel 4 will be showing a follow-up to last year's investigation into what was being preached in some of Britain's mosques. Tonight's programme will centre on the Regents Park mosque in London, widely considered the most important mosque in Britain.

I have read the previews of this programme so I know what is coming but I would not have been surprised in any case by what is claimed to have been being taught.

I wonder if the Metropolitan Police will be investigating the incitement that appears to have taken place in the Regents Park mosque or will they like their colleagues in the West Midlands police force choose to investigate the film-makers instead.

Undercover Mosque

Last November Iblogged that:

"Today we read that "Channel 4 has been vindicated by the media watchdog Ofcom after police complained about an investigative programme that exposed extremism in British mosques. West Midland's police had faced criticism for targeting the producers of the show rather than the controversial preachers depicted in it. Ofcom added fuel to that debate by praising Undercover Mosque as a "legitimate investigation, uncovering matters of important public interest." The watchdog added: "Ofcom found no evidence that the broadcaster had misled the audience or that the programme was likely to encourage or incite criminal activity. "On the evidence (including untransmitted footage and scripts), Ofcom found that the broadcaster had accurately represented the material it had gathered and dealt with the subject matter responsibly and in context."...Following today's ruling, the Channel 4 called the police's actions "perverse" and said they had, in some people's eyes, given "legitimacy to people preaching a message of hate".""

Today I learn that Channel 4 has won £100,000 from the West Midlands police force and that the West Midlands Police will also apologise at the High Court following the comments it published about the Dispatches programme "Undercover Mosque".

I believe that is what is called "a result".

Will the BBC cover this story as heavily as they did the news that the West Midlands police force was launching the original investigation? Previous experience leads me to believe the answer is no.

Taken out of context?

There was a Channel 4 Dispatches documentary a while back called "Undercover Mosque" which showed several Muslim preachers using rather inflammatory language. You can watch the documentary on You Tube from this page, either in bits or as one piece.

The West Midlands Police investigated the preachers but the Crown Prosecution Service decided that there was no case to answer by the preachers and to instead report Channel 4 to Ofcom over the way the programme was edited. This is clearly a sensitive subject, so before I comment I think you should watch the original programme

The BBC article on this matter can be read here.

Also please watch the Channel 4 news coverage of this affair yesterday, here and here.

Now think carefully about what you have watched and read and now give your considered comments on this blog.
