The moral case against Jeremy Corbyn per Spectator Coffee House

A seriously good article in The Spectator

Here's an extract but do read it all.
'I can make a fair case for saying that  Jeremy Corbyn is the most hypocritical and unscrupulous leader in Labour's history. His paid employment while he was an MP was nothing so elevated as corporate lobbying. It consisted of working for the propaganda stations of Russia and Iran. If you watch the YouTubevideos of Corbyn in action, you cannot pretend that he is challenging his paymasters or even politely expressing an alternative point of view. He is a mouthpiece for his ugly employers. A willing rather than a merely mercenary mouthpiece, I grant you. Hatred of the West and the willingness to excuse any state as long as it is anti-Western animated him. He is a propagandist for the love not the money.

Having said that, as he reinforces his employers' prejudices and avoids discussion of their crimes, every one of the consoling cliches that surround Corbyn and his supporters falls apart.'Jeremy is a decent man'. Really? No decent person is the flunkey of fantastically corrupt states. 'Jeremy is left-wing.' Is he? He has a funny way of showing it. Iran and Russia are self-proclaimed conservative states. Iran is the bastion of theocratic Shia conservatism. It persecutes ethnic and religious minorities – until Assad began his mass murders, Iran was the worst place in the world to be a Sunni Muslim – and jails trade unionists. Putin, meanwhile, tells the European far right to reject liberalism, and embrace his reactionary nationalism. From a Russian point of view, Corbyn and Seumas Milne's most prominent comrade is Marine le Pen.

You cannot support oppression abroad and freedom at home. No one has the right to be shocked by Corbyn's association with a holocaust denier, or his supporters' willingness to resort to the grossest abuse of women, while their Pilate of a leader washes his hands and looks the other way. It is all of a piece.'
A view that you won't hear on the institutionally pro Labour Party BBC.

What if Barack Hussein Obama isn't inept, what if he knows exactly what he's doing?

What if Barack Hussein Obama isn't inept, what if he knows exactly what he's doing?

Do you remember the so called 'Obama open mic slip':
"After my election I have more flexibility"
Maybe Barack Hussein Obama's seeming incompetence with regards to foreign policy, an example being the way Russia has been given all but a free hand in Syria, isn't all it seems...

Watch this and wonder...

Do the British have a deterrent against Russia

Do the British have a deterrent against Russia, what would Britain do? Is Putin using 'salami tactics'.

Yes, Prime Minister always was prescient.

Ukraine Region Votes to Join Russia - WSJ.com

'American officials realize that they misjudged Mr. Putin and are working to predict his next move, the senior official said. "We have misread Putin. He is not going to give up," the official said.'

How come they couldn't see what I could? Or could they but now Barack Obama has more flexibility in his second term...

The evil side of Twitter

I have spoken of @DD1958 aka POPS! before, he's the nasty piece of work who denies Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state, claims all of Israel is Palestinian land and calls Israel an apartheid state.

What really gets my goat (pun intended) is the way that he and others try to equate Israel's treatment of the Palestinians with the treatment of the Jews by the Nazis. This comparison is not only demonstrably false, it's deliberately offensive.

Earlier today I saw a comparison of Auschwitz and Gaza on Twitter, so I re-tweeted it to @DD1958 and some others who were associated with this tweet...

Here's my tweet...
One half is a seriously unpleasant image of Jewish children suffering in Auschwitz but it's an image that we should never forget so long as there are Islamists (and others) that both want to recreate the holocaust whilst oddly often denying that it happened in the first place. People like Mahmoud Abbas and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - that's the joy of being (or supporting) Palestinians; being able to hold two contradictory opinions at the same time but not to be challenged on this.

@DD1958 aka Pops! however decided he could 'take offence', accused me of posting 'porn' and reported me for so doing.

His motives are clear. Supporters of the 'Palestinans' make many offensive and untrue claims about Israel and they just can't abide the truth being publicised. Censorship of the truth was a favourite tactic of the Nazis in Germany, the communists in Soviet Russia and many other dictators and totalitarians throughout history, thankfully free speech does still exist in the West, well just about, despite the best efforts of people like @DD1958.

I could have posted some other comparison images, here's some more. First of Jews who died in the real holocaust:

And here's some more of Gaza, where there is no holocaust happening:

Can you spot the difference between the real holocaust of the Jews in the 1930s and 1940s and what's happening in Gaza today? Can @DD1958?

Do you remember that claim that Israel is eradicating the Palestinians; are they?

Surely even the haters of Israel cannot ignore such basic facts. Sorry, of course they can because their hatred is stronger and deeper than facts can reach.

Breitbart turns back time...

Apparently

Now I agree with Gary Kasparov's comments but somehow I don't think he thinks that the Russian President is 'Vladimir Lenin', Vladimir Putin seems more likely.

'Assad Unable To Convince Putin That He Used Chemical Weapons On Syrians' - I think this is satire but I'm not sure

The Onion reports
'MOSCOW—Despite Syrian president Bashar al-Assad’s flat-out admission to the Russian leader that he was responsible for an August 21 chemical weapons attack on a suburban Damascus neighborhood, Russian president Vladimir Putin confirmed Wednesday that al-Assad has yet to provide a convincing case that he carried out the assault. “Given the information I’ve seen at this point, President Assad failed to show me clear, substantiated evidence that he used chemical weapons against the Syrian people, regardless of how many times he says ‘I, Bashar al-Assad, President of Syria, am the one who did this’ while showing me videos of people dying of Sarin poisoning,” said Putin, adding that he remains extremely skeptical despite phone conversations in which a reportedly frustrated Assad repeats, over and over again, the step-by-step account of how he authorized the use of nerve gas to kill over 1,400 people. “We need to know all the facts before we act. I don’t care how many autopsy reports, laboratory tests, or pictures of Assad pressing a button labeled ‘chemical weapons launcher’ he sends me—before we have conclusive proof that he and not the opposition forces did this, we cannot say that Syria is in violation of international law.” Putin went on to confirm that until Assad proves beyond a doubt that he carried out the alleged attack, Russia will continue delivering components of a surface-to-air missile defense system to the Syrian government.'
The best satire is close to the truth!

Russia and China summed up by the BBC for once but the narrative will not change

'Russia and China veto an Arab and Western-backed UN resolution condemning the violent crackdown in Syria, hours after scores are killed in Homs.'
Men, women and children being killed in cold-blood by President Assad's troops and goons and Russia and China oppose a UN resolution. Assad's troops are using mortars and  tanks against civilians and Russia and China oppose a UN resolution. Russia has supported and armed the Assad regime for years; not that you would know that from the BBC for whom only the US and UK are guilty of supplying arms to vile regimes.

Meanwhile the usual suspects who scream and shout when Israel go after terrorists in Gaza are noticeably silent about an Arab President killing hundreds of his own countrymen. Are the usual suspects really concerned with human rights in the Middle East or only when it provides them with an excuse to scream abuse at the only Jewish state?

Oh those Russians!

I have just learnt that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed a bill that officially classifies beer as alcoholic. It seems that until now anything containing less than 10% alcohol in Russia has been considered a foodstuff.

Wow!

Celebrating a mass-murderer

In the last few days I have seen two rather odd examples of the way that a dictator considered a Communist can still be revered in a way that Hitler could (quite rightly) not. Westminster University is holding an exhibition called 'Poster Power: Images from Mao's China, Then and Now' at its 309 Regents Street building. Here's the blurb:
'Posters from Mao’s China exercise an enduring appeal to audiences across the globe, more than sixty years after the events that produced them. They are revisited in modern and contemporary Chinese art and commercial design, and curated in exhibitions in China, the US and Europe.

So why does imagery produced to support a revolutionary ideology half a century ago continue to resonate with current Chinese and Western audiences? What is the China we see between posters of the Mao years and their contemporary consumerist reinventions? How do we explain the diverse responses such imagery evokes? And what does the appeal of the posters of Mao’s China tell us about the country’s ‘red legacy’?

Poster Power explores some of these questions through setting up a visual dialogue between posters produced between the 1950s and the 1970s and their echoes in recent years. With posters from the University of Westminster’s Chinese Poster Collection, Chinese video art, documentary film, photographs, and contemporary items such as playing cards and nightclub advertising, the exhibition invites viewers to explore the posters’ ambiguities of appeal to their audiences. As visual reminders of both autocratic rule and exuberant youthful idealism, they evoke diverse responses, challenging the idea that Cultural Revolution poster propaganda transmitted a single, transparent meaning. These posters’ capacity to inspire ambiguous responses opens up new narratives of what remains a complex period of China’s recent past, and sheds light on its changing significance in contemporary China.'
Why not a word, nor even an allusion to the around 50 million people killed by the Chinese regime since 1949? why not a mention of the many millions tortured by the Chinese regime and forced to give up their "intellectual" jobs to work on the land as "workers", would that not have resonance for current students? Why not a mention of those killed around Tienanmen Square? Why not a mention of the invasion of Tibet and the destruction of so much Buddhist life? Why not a mention of the human rights abuses that occurred around the Beijing Olympics?

The other example was in an antique shop the other week where there was a small number of photos of Chairman Mao in a case and nobody seemed to think this was odd.

Can you imagine the furore if an antique shop had a collection of Adolph Hitler images on display? Can you imagine the protests if a British University held an exhibition of posters from Nazi Germany and did not put them into context?

Adolph Hitler's Nazi Germany killed around seven million people and the regime is rightly abhorred. Mao's communist regime in China killed many many more (as did Stalin's communist regime in the Soviet Union) and yet there is hardly a word of protest in remembrance now. Schools teach the evils of Nazism & the BBC raise the subject regularly, and quite rightly so, but the equally (or more) evils of Mao and Stalin's communist regimes are mentioned far less; why is that the case? Maybe it is something to do with the backgrounds of a large proportion of the BBC, Labour Party leadership and educational elite in this country; once a Marxist, always a Marxist?

The one hundred and twenty second weekly "No shit, Sherlock" award

This weeks' winner is Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov for his remarks to the effect that the Western-led military intervention in Libya may lead to an escalation of international terrorism.

His exact words were: "If the situation gets out of hand, then we will have to deal with new manifestations of international terrorism, and many other developments, which we would like to avoid,"

The one hundred and twelfth weekly "No shit, Sherlock" award

This week's award goes to Angela Merkel, as reported in Reuters for stating the obvious regarding the sentencing of former Russian oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky to six additional years in prison on charges of multi-billion dollar theft and money-laundering meaning that he will serve a total of 14 years in prison and not be freed until 2017.

"The impression remains that political motivations played a role in this trial...This contradicts Russia's frequently repeated intention to pursue full adoption of the rule of law."
