I am not a sheep, I have my own mind
I have had enough of being told what and how to think
Whilst we are still allowed the remnants of free speech,
I will speak out.
I also reserve the right to discuss less controversial matters should I feel the urge.
'... in the 2010 election, Muslims favoured Labour, while the Jewish vote went to the Conservatives.'
"Cyclists are Israelis," my father pronounced.A quality piece of gratuitous insulting of Israel, alongside a conflation of Jews and Israel. What a lovely chap.
"Persecuted for years, now able to persecute in their turn, doing so at every opportunity and fancying themselves heroes and martyrs for doing so."
'For a president of the United States, the personal is inevitably political. But there is one annual event at the White House that truly is personal for its current chief resident -- or at least as personal as anything can be in the most watched building in the country.
President Obama’s upcoming Passover Seder, scheduled for March 25, will host just 20 or so participants this year -- more or less the same core crowd that has been attending it since 2008, when three young staffers began the tradition while on the campaign trail and then-senator Obama surprised them by dropping in.
In many ways, this presidential Seder resembles that of many families, if you can look past portraits of former first ladies adorning the walls, the elegant crystal chandelier hanging over the guests’ heads and the White House china on which the gefilte fish is being served. The Haggadah of choice is Maxwell House, and the Passover fare is traditional, featuring classics like matzo ball soup, brisket and kugel.
But there are some differences in the ceremony itself -- such as the annual reading of the Emancipation Proclamation right before Elijah sneaks in, and the president’s vocal impersonation of Pharaoh. And, of course, the Secret Service always knows where the afikomen is hidden. “When you work in politics, the people you work with are your family,” said Arun Chaudhary, one of the campaign aides who began the now annual tradition, explaining the uniquely personal nature of this Jewish White House event.
It was in 2008, during the rough Pennsylvania primary, that Chaudhary, Eric Lesser and Herbie Ziskend unknowingly began an Obama White House tradition. Disappointed that they wouldn’t be able to return home for Passover, the three aides made plans to meet up at 10 p.m. in a basement conference room in the Sheraton Hotel in Harrisburg. Weaving through cheerleaders from a convention the hotel was hosting, the trio brought their collected Seder items: a burnt bone from the hotel kitchen, Maxwell House Haggadot, shmura matzo squirreled away from Penn Hillel by Lesser’s cousin, and a bottle of Manischewitz wine.
“The spirit of Passover is, if you’re traveling, you do the best you can, and you celebrate it anywhere, under any circumstances,” said Lesser.
Just as they started the Seder, Obama stopped in to join them. “He peppered us with questions, keeping with traditions of a Seder. ... We had a great time. It was a very special moment … in the middle of an exhausting campaign,” Lesser explained.
At the end of the Seder, after everyone raised a glass and said “Next year in Jerusalem,” Obama “raised his glass and said ‘Next year in the White House,’” Lesser recalled.
A year later, on the way to a meeting in the White House, “the president shouted, ‘Hey, are we doing the Seder again?’” to Lesser, who by then was working as a special assistant to Obama’s senior political adviser, David Axelrod. “Yeah. Sure,” he yelled back.
That year, the original staffers, plus a few others, and a handful of Obama’s friends and family, initiated the first official White House Seder. Planned by the original trio, it was intended to be “true to the original spirit” of the 2008 Seder, Lesser said, though, he joked, “it was in much nicer surroundings.” Still, the group stuck with the Maxwell House Haggadah, served Manischewitz wine and shmura matzo, and tacked on the line “Next Year in the White House” to the end of the Seder.'

'The indefatigable Robin Shepherd highlights a jaw dropping comment by Michael White, Assistant Editor of the Guardian:
In a discussion on security for political leaders pegging off the assault onMr White has a habit of making throwaway remarks which seem almost calculated to offend. But even from him, this is especially outrageous.
Silvio Berlusconi the other day, White talked meanderingly about previous
attacks on political leaders and, understandably for a British discussion show, brought in the case of Northern Ireland where Unionists and Nationalists in the main desisted from assassinating each others leaders. And then, like a flash of lightening out of a clear blue sky, this:
“In Israel they murder each other a great deal. The Israeli Defense Forces
murder people because they don’t like their political style and what they’ve got to say and it only means that people more extreme come in and take their
place.”
No interruption from the BBC moderator of course — apart from an approving “hmm”. No one to stop such appalling, defamatory lies in their tracks. There it is. On the record. A vicious calumny about Israel, pumping yet more sewage into the public mind as the Jewish state is portrayed as nothing better than a violent, totalitarian dictatorship which silences political dissent through the barrel of a gun.
With regard to the Israel-Palestine conflict, in July 2006 he stated that as he gets older his sympathies are shifting back to Israel.
White, in discussing media self-censorship in March 2011, says, "I have always sensed liberal, middle class ill-ease in going after stories about immigration, legal or otherwise, about welfare fraud or the less attractive tribal habits of the working class, which is more easily ignored altogether. Toffs, including royal ones, Christians, especially popes, governments of Israel, and US Republicans are more straightforward targets."
'The Egyptian authorities have sunk to new levels of cowardice by refusing 'Jews of Egypt', Amir Ramses's new film, a licence to go on general release. The Times of Israel reports...'http://jewishrefugees.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/film-on-egyptian-jews-blocked-on.html
'The scale of the Nazis' attempt to eradicate Europe's Jewish population could far exceed what historians have long believed to be the case, according to a group of academics from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.More here at the JC. Will the holocaust deniers have to deny even more?
As part of a 13-year project to catalogue the sites of Nazi atrocities and build a comprehensive map of the Holocaust, researchers have found evidence of 42,500 Nazi "killing centres", ghettoes, forced labour camps and other sites of persecution and murder.
The list, which covers the period between 1933 and 1945 and the different areas occupied by the Germans, includes camps where women were forced into prostitution or made to have abortions, as well as places where prisoners were forced to construct war equipment.
While major concentration camps such as Auschwitz are well known, the list includes myriad unknown Nazi sites, including an astonishing 980 concentration camps and 1,150 Jewish ghettoes.
The research team had anticipated finding evidence of around 7,000 Nazi sites; they have now identified six times that number.'
'The allegations behind blood libel originate in the Middle Ages when Jews were falsely accused of ritualised murder, in particular the murder of children. The allegations were used to justify violence against Jews.
Amy Spitalnick, press secretary for the progressive pro-Israel group J Street, says the term invokes some of the worst accusations that have been made against Jews.
"Essentially it implies that Jews murder Christian and non-Jewish children to use their blood in Jewish rituals and holidays," Ms Spitalnick told the BBC.
"At one point it was tied in with Passover. Using the term would imply the using of non-Jewish blood for the baking of Matzah."
Blood libel myths run counter to Jewish theology which prohibits murder.
The Torah also forbids the consumption of animal blood - Kosher meat is drained of blood. Many Jewish scholars interpret the relevant Torah passage to also proscribe human blood.
A representative for the Center for Jewish History in New York referred the BBC to the definition of blood libel in the Encyclopaedia Judaica.
That reference work says that in addition to the accusations of murder, blood libel may connote "another form of the belief that Jews had been and still were responsible for the passion and crucifixion of Jesus Christ" and "popular beliefs about the murder-lust of the Jews and their bloodthirstiness, based on the conception that Jews hate Christianity and mankind in general".'
'One of the earliest European versions of the blood libel story occurred in 12th Century England.Oddly after the reference to the Nazis there are no further references to the 'blood libel' in this BBC article. I say odd because as I am sure the BBC would have discovered, had they been interested in the true causes of Muslim hatred of Jews, that the 'blood libel' lives on in many parts of the Muslim Middle East.
A dangerous, unfounded rumour that Jews had kidnapped a 12-year-old Christian boy, William of Norwich, and stabbed his head to simulate Jesus's crown of thorns was used to justify persecution of Jews.
While the Norwich account does not contain the element of the draining of blood and its ritual use, some experts suggest it is a story of the same type and generally seen as the entry point into England for such accusations.
Decades later, Pope Innocent IV launched an investigation into the claims, which eventually declared them false.
The blood myths persisted however, and were at times used to incite pogroms, or anti-Jewish riots.
In 1840, the disappearance of French Franciscan priest Father Thomas and his servant in Damascus, Syria, was blamed on the city's Jews.
Authorities helped perpetuate allegations that the priest was used in a ritual sacrifice. At least 13 Jews were incarcerated and probably tortured over the disappearance; four died.
The incident sparked an international backlash for both sides. American Jews staged protests, while some scholars claim it bolstered anti-Semitic attitudes in Europe and the Middle East.
During the 1930s, Nazi propaganda periodically explored accusations of Jewish ritual murder.'
'Blood libel (also blood accusation[1][2]) is a false accusation or claim[3][4][5] that religious minorities, usually Jews, murder children to use their blood in certain aspects of their religious rituals and holidays.[1][2][6] Historically, these claims—alongside those of well poisoning and host desecration—have been a major theme in European persecution of Jews.[4]That Wikipedia article gives some interesting historical examples of the blood libel, going back to the first century BC. It is the modern day libels that interest me, especially those that emanate from Israel's neighbours, Wikipedia lists a few:
Blood libels typically allege that Jews require human blood for the baking of matzos for Passover, although this element was absent in the earliest cases that claimed (the contemporary) Jews reenacted the crucifixion. The accusations often assert that the blood of Christian children is especially coveted, and, historically, blood libel claims have been made to account for otherwise unexplained deaths of children. In some cases, the alleged victim of human sacrifice has become venerated as a martyr, a holy figure around whom a martyr cult might arise. Four of these have been previously canonized as saints, namely William of Norwich, Little Saint Hugh of Lincoln, Simon of Trent (Simon was decanonized[7] in the 20th century), and Gavriil Belostoksky who remains canonized in the Russian Orthodox Church.'
In 2003 a private Syrian film company created a 29-part television series Ash-Shatat ("The Diaspora"). This series originally aired in Lebanon in late 2003 and was broadcast by Al-Manar, a satellite television network owned by Hezbollah. This TV series, based on the antisemitic forgery The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, shows the Jewish people as engaging in a conspiracy to rule the world, and presents Jews as people who murder Christian children, drain their blood and use this blood to bake matzah.
During a speech in 2007, Raed Salah, the leader of the northern branch of the Islamic Movement in Israel, accused Jews of using children's blood to bake bread. "We have never allowed ourselves to knead [the dough for] the bread that breaks the fast in the holy month of Ramadan with children's blood," he said. "Whoever wants a more thorough explanation, let him ask what used to happen to some children in Europe, whose blood was mixed in with the dough of the [Jewish] holy bread." [42]
In an address that aired on Al-Aqsa TV on March 31, 2010 (as translated by MEMRI), Salah Eldeen Sultan (Arabic: ØµÙ„Ø§Ø Ø§Ù„Ø¯ÙŠÙ† سلطان), founder of the American Center for Islamic Research in Columbus, Ohio, the Islamic American University in Southfield, Michigan, and the Sultan Publishing Co.[46] and described in 2005 as "one of America's most noted Muslim scholars," alleged that Jews kidnap Christians and others in order to slaughter them and use their blood for making matzos. Sultan, who is currently a lecturer of Muslim jurisprudence at the Cairo University stated that: "The Zionists kidnap several non-Muslims [sic] – Christians and others... this happened in a Jewish neighborhood in Damascus. They killed the French doctor, Toma, who used to treat the Jews and others for free, in order to spread Christianity. Even though he was their friend and they benefited from him the most, they took him on one of these holidays and slaughtered him, along with the nurse. Then they kneaded the matzos with the blood of Dr. Toma and his nurse. They do this every year. The world must know these facts about the Zionist entity and its terrible corrupt creed. The world should know this."[47][48][49][50][51]
'Following is a translation of a virulently anti-Semitic article entitled
‘The Talmud, the Jews and Human Sacrifice’ which appeared in the Egyptian
opposition newspaper Al-Shaab on November 17, 1998.
The article was written by Dr. Fahmi Abd al-Salaam.
It asserts that Jews
use blood of Christians to bake passover matzah and carry out human sacrifices:
Throughout history, the Jews have been known to be a depressed and whiny
people. There is a clear connection between the Jewish race and depression,
and many writers have described Jewish depression as a trait characteristic
of this despicable race. And we all remember Shakespeare’s Shylock who was
absorbed by dark bitterness and demanded a pound of human flesh.
In the important book ‘The Jews in Egypt in the Modern Era’ by researcher
Orpah Abdah Ali, which was published in 1991 and which surveyed the life
and activity of the Jews in Egypt from the time of Muhammad Ali through
1967, there is a chapter about the religious ceremonies conducted by Jews
on behalf of their God, who is the blood-thirsty God which the Jews
invented in accordance with their nature. In that chapter it states that
the Talmud, which is full of errors, falsehoods and fabrications, played an
important part in the formulation of the of the phenomenon of ‘fanatic
nationalism’ among the Jews, and they prefer it over the Torah.
It also states in the chapter that the Jews carry out human sacrifices to
please their blood-thirsty God. In this context, the book quotes the Talmud
as saying “We have two ways of satisfying our God: the first is on the
Feast of Matzah [Passover], using matzah mixed with human blood, and the
second is the circumcision ceremony for our children.” This, while the
Jewish Encyclopedia says, “The rabbis have given their approval for
carrying out human sacrifices of Christians to our God.”
The author of the book surveys the methods by which the rabbis slaughter a
person prior to his being sacrificed to God:
1. The first method is that the victim is brought while still alive and
placed into a large barrel with sharp needles embedded in its side. The
needles pierce the victim’s skin and his blood begins to drip into the
barrel. The more the victim moves due to the pain, the worse his wounds
become until finally his body is emptied of all blood. Thus, when his soul
departs from his body, the last drop of his blood leaves as well.
2. The second method is used in places which are not secure for Jews, where
they are compelled to carry out their crimes quickly without enjoying them:
they slaughter the victim by severing his neck and arteries after having
placed a receptacle underneath him so the blood will flow into it.
Afterwards, the blood is gathered in a jar. These jars are brought on
Passover and Purim to the leading rabbi, who blesses the blood. Then, they
mix the blood together with flour to make matzah. Afterwards, the matzah is
distributed to God-fearing Jews and they eat it with an appetite
commensurate with the depth of their hatred for Jesus and Christians.
The conditions which the victim must fulfil to be fit for Purim, as noted
by the author, are as follows: he must be an adult Christian who is
religious – preferably a priest – and he must be gentle and shy – which
attests to the quality of his blood – and not sexually active. Similarly,
he must be a friend of the Jews, so that the blood will not be contaminated
by hatred for them. The slaughtering of the victim is entrusted to a group
of 7 Jews, of whom at least one must be a rabbi.
I had thought that the matter of Jewish matzah mixed with blood was a
fabrication, but the shocking thing is that it is a fact, a fact which has
been proved in some 400 cases which have become known, while the number of
cases that have not been revealed is far higher. It was in this framework
that the Jews slaughtered a young Egyptian girl in 1881 in Port Said.'
'Dr. Salman bin Fahd al-Odah, Assistant Secretary General of the Federation of Muslim Scholars, spoke in a wide-ranging interview on a Ramadan TV program that was shown throughout the Arab world.
Al-Odah's topic was - Jews.
He spoke approvingly of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, as well as an Arabic book called "Stones on the Chessboard" with a similar theme.
...
He then went on to say that the Talmud and other Jewish holy books demand the murder of non-Jewish children in order to make matzoh for Passover, and he said that this is documented historically as well as in an Arabic novel called "The blood of the unleavened bread of Zion." He also said, as proof, "I read a story that a doctor was working in a lab and he lived near a Jewish family so they asked him about human blood, and he began to investigate only to discover that scandal" that Jews bake matzoh with human blood.
This sort of anti-semitism is mainstream Arab TV fare. '
'Within the next few weeks the BBC, which is funded by British taxpayers through revenues derived from the television licence fee, will take a decision directly affecting the lives of, if not all British Jews, then certainly those living in the North-West. Of comparatively minor not to say peripheral importance in itself, this matter strikes me as being of major significance for the whole of British Jewry. The BBC's attitude to Jews stinks.
The decision involves the fate of a radio programme that has been aired weekly on BBC Radio Manchester for 21 years. Jewish Hour was launched (under the title It's Kosher) in 1991. The launch was assisted by a small grant (£1,500) from the Manchester Jewish Representative Council. Originally a half-hour radio magazine, the programme was an instant success, and has for some time been allotted an hour of broadcasting time. The BBC generously donates the magnificent sum of £70 per week to cover the programme's expenses. Everyone involved in its presentation gives their services free. Now the BBC is threatening to axe it.
Ostensibly, the threat has come about as a result of a cost-cutting exercise ("Delivering Quality First") and - ostensibly - is without sinister intent. The BBC has already taken the decision in principle to scrap its regional weekday evening radio programmes. Instead, it will launch a "syndicated" radio magazine entitled All Around England, which local stations can air if they wish. This magazine will be produced by an independent contractor and will have a professional, salaried presenting team. BBC regional offices are (so I'm assured) under no obligation to "buy into" this magazine but they are clearly under pressure to do so. If, within the next few weeks, BBC North West decides to invest in this package, Jewish Hour will cease to be broadcast with effect from later this year. Should that happen, the Beeb will henceforth offer no regular programme dedicated to its Anglo-Jewish audiences and licence-payers.
This strikes me as scandalous on several grounds. The BBC is surely obligated, under the terms of its Royal Charter, to address the needs of local communities. The awkwardly titled "purpose remit" of the BBC Trust insists that "BBC viewers, listeners and users can rely on the BBC to reflect the many communities that exist in the UK. These communities may be based on geography, on faith, on language, or on a shared interest…"
But how can that insistence be genuine if Jewish Hour is given the chop? As one enthusiast put it to me, Jewish Hour "is the only Jewish interest programme on the BBC… [its abolition] would mean that the BBC is entirely devoid of any programme specifically devoted to matters of Jewish interest."
If the argument in favour of abolition was exclusively economic even I might have some sympathy with it. But it isn't. In the first place I should like to know how the replacement of a programme delivered through the services of unpaid volunteers by one delivered by an external contractor employing a salaried presenter can amount - in any meaningful sense - to "cost-cutting". In the second, I need to ask (and so do you) why Jewish Hour is under threat but not programmes dedicated to the needs of other ethnic minorities in the north-west.
For the unpalatable fact is that Indus, a two-hour magazine programme broadcast by BBC Radio Manchester and Radio Lancashire and featuring news, comment and entertainment for the Asian communities of North-West England, is reportedly under no threat at all. Taxpayers' money (in short) will continue to support the radio needs of Manchester's Muslim, Sikh, Hindu and Jain communities, but not of its Jews.
This threatened act of palpable discrimination by a publicly funded body must be challenged. Those learned in the law will doubtless be reaching for their law books.
But even if you are not a lawyer, there is something you can do. And that is to contact the BBC's director-general, Mark Thompson (mark.thompson@bbc.co.uk), whose salary you help pay, and ask him (as I shall be doing) for an assurance that Jewish Hour will survive no matter what "cost-cutting" policies he is minded to implement.'
'[T]he mosque is now controlled by an Islamist organisation, the Muslim Association of Britain, which has been linked to the banned terror group, Hamas. A man who has acted as spokesman for the current leadership, Azzam Tamimi, is on record assupporting suicide bombings. One of the mosque’s current directors, Mohammed Sawalha, is described by the BBC as a former senior figure in Hamas who “is said to have masterminded much of Hamas’s political and military strategy” from his post in London.
In 2009 Mr Sawalha also signed the Istanbul Declaration which calls for attacks against the allies of Israel, which include the UK. The British Government interpreted it as calling for attacks on British troops.'
