OK what's Konnie Huq done?

I only ask because 40% of the visitors to this site in the last few hours have been to look at this old Rule 5 Saturday night post

Doing a bit of digging, I think it may be connected to the Channel 4 series Black Mirror which was co-written by Konnie and her husband Charlie Brooker.
Tonight's episode, 15 Million Merits, aired at 9pm on Channel 4. Apparently, because I missed it:

'15 Million Merits is set in a time - supposedly at some point in the future - when people 'are confined to the drudgery of real life unless they can impress the judges of a popular TV talent show'.

If the premise sounds familiar, the newly released pictures of the upcoming episode will seem like even more of a dig at The X Factor, as three judges are seen sitting behind an X Factor-style desk as they pass judgement on contestants.


The first episode of Black Mirror, The National Anthem, was a resounding success, attracting high ratings for Channel 4 and gripping critics and viewers alike.'

Konnie Huq Rule 5 Saturday evening post

The fragrant ex-children's TV presenter Konnie Huq. I can see what Charlie Brooker sees in her but what does she see in him? Maybe woman really do want a man with a good sense of humour (gsoh), Mrs NotaSheep obvioulsy (and thanfully) prefers humour to looks in a man.

I have posted about Ms Huq before and can even forgive her support for the Labour Party, almost...

As I wrote in January 2008:

'It appears that I am not alone in posting about the fragrant Ms Huq. Stumbling and Mumbling has written an excellent piece explaining "the adverse effect she's had upon the British economy." It is his contention that "Anything that makes being out of work more pleasant encourages people to linger on benefits. And the sight of Ms Huq on daytime TV has just this effect. Why bother going out to work when you can stay home and look at her?"'

Konnie Huq and Charlie Brooker are engaged

I like Charlie Brooker's writing and have long been an admirer of Konnie Huq's presenting abilities if not her politics, so what's not to be happy about?

"I may take my clothes off but I'm as smart as David Dimbleby"

So says Konnie Huq in The Mail. Two thoughts, first that that is a rather limited ambition and second that Konnie Huq is possibly even more pro Labour than David Dimbleby.

My views on the Chinese and the way they have treated Tibet and any outbreaks of democracy in China are will documented and my views on the Beijing Olympics are hardening as well.

A final thought, what were those Chinese "Flame Attendants" doing? Under what law were they allowed to push people about in this Country? The way they were allowed to organise the Olympic flame handover in Downing Street was rather sinister.

Not my usual sort post but following my earlier post re Gordon Brown's appearance on Blue Peter, my attention was drawn to this video of Konnie Huq presenting some music show...

Gordon Brown's priorities

Gordon Appeared on Blue Peter yesterday to wish Konnie Huq goodbye, yes the same Konnie Huq who got into trouble for appearing on a political platform with Ken Livingstone last August when Ken was attacking his opponents "The BBC had turned down an “unsuitable” request for her to appear alongside Mr Livingstone...But, at her agent’s behest, she did so anyway. The mayor and Jenny Jones, a Green Party assembly member, used the event to accuse the Conservatives of pursuing “pro-car” policies.".

Gordon Brown's priorities are rather "strange" are they not - there is a worldwide banking crisis, the stockmarkets are in a state of panic, the Northern Rock problem is still very much alive, inflation is spiralling upwards, his own Home Secretary says she feels unsafe walking London's streets at night, his Labour party's London Mayor is under investigation, the army are experiencing severe problems in Iraq and Afghanistan, his Labour government seem incapable of keeping UK citizens' personal data safe, etc. etc. etc. and he goes on a kids TV programme - what sort of message that send the public?

Meanwhile, I read that I am not alone in thinking Gordon Brown to be "strange" - it appears that David Cameron said to the Times "I am being very careful because if you say anything else that strange man in Downing Street will cook up an enormous package of Tory spending cuts."


Maybe Gordon Brown was confused by the programme name - Blue Peter - he is of course another manifestation of The Peter Principle within this Labour Government. The Peter Principle states that "In a hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence." Is this Labour government the living proof of the Peter Principle?
