Who'd be a gay air steward?

'Air France has resumed flights to Iran after ignoring pleas gay crew who feared they could be executed.

A petition launched last week complained that it was 'inconceivable' gay cabin staff should have to travel to a country where homosexuality is illegal.

But on Sunday, the airline recommenced flights from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Tehran - the first since 2008 - having taken no action over the protest.

A week earlier female employees of the company were told they would be allowed to opt out of working on the resumed flights so that they can avoid having to wear a headscarf.

Interesting that Islam outranks homosexuality but not feminism.

Iran and homosexuality

The new Iranian Penal code that was passed by the Guardian Council of the Constitution in Iran on May 1, 2013, states, “male homosexuality , in other cases rather than lavat [sodomy] and tafkhiz [rubbing penis between another man's tights without penetration], such as passionate kissing and lustful touching – is punishable by 31 to 74 punitive lashes of 6th degree.” [Article 237].
The wording of the law [such as..] allows the judge to consider any other “homosexual” conduct – whether imaginary or real – as deserving punishment …. This vague law, in practice, paves the way for the punishment of anyone arrested on suspicion of homosexuality, but can’t be tried on sodomy charges due to the lack of evidence.
Has anyone noticed any coverage of this news on the BBC? Or is criticism of Islamic states verbotten on the anti-Israel BBC?

The BBC a difference in coverage

The BBC are reporting widely the shooting of three people at a gay community centre in Israel. The Israeli Prime Minister has condemned the murders and Israel is the most gay friendly country in the Middle East. Meanwhile hidden away in its South Asia pages is the story of eight Christians killed by a Muslim mob who believed (incorrectly) that the Christians had defaced a Koran, six of the Christians (four women, a man and a child) died as the Muslims militants set fire to Christian houses in the town of Gojra.

SO why the disparity in the levels of coverage? Normally the BBC explain the relatively large amount of coverage of Indian and especially Pakistani news by the number of people with sub-continental roots. However in this case the coverage has been paltry. However, as we all know, the BBC do like to cover in detail any news that reflects badly on Israel despite the links between the UK and Israel and Palestine being somewhat weaker.

There is a BBC narrative to be spread and it is not one that will ever reflect well on Israel. As I said Israel is the only gay friendly country in the Middle East and yet this story includes tis "Gay rights activist Mike Hamel criticised religiously-driven hatred of homosexuals." Oddly I do not remember the BBC giving anywhere near as much prominence to the regular state sanctioned hangings in Iran of homosexuals.

To the BBC a one-off killing by a lone gunman in Jewish Israel is a far more serious matter than the state sanctioned hanging of homosexuals in Muslim Iran or the murder of Christians in Islamic Pakistan; why?

One rule for Israel another for Iran

The BBC are "going big" on the story that "a gunman... killed two people and wounded at least 10 at a gay support centre in the city of Tel Aviv." A terrible crime and one that deserves publicity but this crime took place in Israel the most/only gay friendly country in the middle wast. I do not remember the BBC giving anywhere near as much prominence to the regular hangings in Iran of homosexuals for being homosexual. To the BBC a one-off killing by a lone gunman in Jewish Israel is a far more serious matter than the state sanctioned hanging of homsexuals in Muslim Iran; why?
