Is car insurance haram?

Does Islam forbid car insurance as the above would suggest?

It would be interesting to find out how many (if any)  Muslims follow this and don't have car insurance.

It would also be interesting to know what the police and courts would do if a Muslim claimed he was following Sharia Law. I wonder if the answer would be the same in 2035.
