Don't they even stop to think for a minute?

'The Scottish government failed to meet its climate change targets in 2010, according the latest official figures. They showed greenhouse gas emissions rose by 1.9% on 2009 figures, after taking emissions trading into account.

The government is attempting to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2020. Scottish Energy Minister Mr Stevenson said "Scotland faced its coldest winter temperatures in almost a century - and quite rightly people across Scotland needed to heat their homes to keep warm and safe".'
Hmmm, are these people such believers in the religion of climate change that they don't even stop to think about what they are saying?

Thanks to Alex Masterley for the spot.

Sorry, my mistake

On Wednesday I blogged about the latest lists of most popular names given to new born babies. In this article I said that 'What I noticed from the list of the 50 top Boys names in England is that the name Mohammed or its variances appear three times. Mohammed has 3,013 births, Muhammad 2,822 and Mohammad 1,019., That makes a total of 6,854 births which would make it the second most popular name for boys in England, just behind Harry.'

I made a mistake but thankfully CNN were there to fact-check me.
'Mohammed reclaimed its place as the most popular name for baby boys born in England and Wales in 2011 - convincingly ahead of Harry, in second place, according to data released by the government this week.

The government declared that Harry was the most popular boy's name, but if you add up the five most popular different spellings of Mohammed, that name comes top.

Mohammed is also the most popular boy's name of the past five years for England and Wales, ahead of Oliver and Jack. It came first or second every year since 2007, the only name to do so.'
Frightfully important to get these things right!

Now I do realise that one of the reasons that Mohammad (or variants) appear so frequently is that Muslims are relatively unadventurous when it comes to naming their sons and that skews the data. However it is indicative of the rising number of Muslims living in the UK. As that CNN article also reported:
'The country, which was about 2% Muslim in 1990, grew to 4.6% Muslim in 2010, with nearly 2.9 million followers of the faith, according to analysis by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life.

By 2030, the United Kingdom will be just over 8% Muslim, with more than 5.5 million adherents, the Washington-based think tank projected in a 2011 report, "The Future of the Global Muslim Population."'
A rising Muslim population, if a proportion are radicalised, will not bode well  for Jews or those of other faiths.

The blood libel reprised

That's Saudi Cleric Salman Al-Odeh, a well-known scholar revered by millions of Muslims around the world, who recently went on a lengthy tirade against the Jews stating that "the role of the Jews is to wreak destruction, to wage war, and to practice deception and extortion,"
Another Islamic preacher who openly preaches hatred for and lies about the Jews.

Bjork and her pussy - the weirdest music video ever?

Bjork - 'Triumph of a heart' - Huh???

Some Mecca humour

Humour aimed at Muslim extremists is so rare, understandably bearing in mind how Islamist extremists have killed, or threatened to kill, novelists, satirists, cartoonists and others. This was also broadcast by the BBC, who are usually the most dhimmified of the UK broadcasters.

NHS tourism

Here is an article from a while back regarding the how the NHS is being abused. This Telegraph article reports:
'Ministers have confirmed that GPs do not need to ask prospective patients for ID or proof of address when registering them, raising fresh fears over “health tourism”. It allows foreign nationals who arrive in England on a six-month visitors visa to begin receiving health care immediately. But the pressure group Migration Watch UK says that it could also mean illegal immigrants getting NHS treatment. Sir Andrew Green, chairman of the organisation, said: “What this means is that someone getting off a plane with a valid visitors visa, is, in effect, able to access the GP services of the NHS without ever having paid a penny into the system. Over one and a half million such visas were issued last year. “And once registered with a GP it is, in practice, an easy step to potentially highly expensive and long term treatment - all at the expense of the UK taxpayer with little or no prospect of the beneficiaries ever being charged for it.” '
Ah the NHS, it's 'the envy of the world' and also usable by anyone who manages to get to this country.

Apartheid in Israel

Some facts:
In israel, thousands of Palestinians have been massacred by Israel over the past four decades. In addition, the 500,000 Palestinians living in Israel have long been subjected to state-sponsored apartheid laws that deny them access to work, education and health services.

Palestinians carrying Israeli passports say that Israel has been doing its utmost to "marginalize" them through a series of laws, decrees and security measures.

Israelis of Palestinian origin suffer from discrimination in many walks of life, including when they are held in prison. Discrimination is also employed against Palestinians when they seek to enroll in Israeli universities, where priority is given to Israelis with no Palestinian roots.
... expressed concern over Israel's ongoing effort to limit the number of Palestinians in parliament, adding that such a move would be in violation of the constitution.
That's horrendous, how can the world let this go unmentioned. Why are the airwaves not full of this story?

The reason is a simple one, I doctored the above quotes slightly, the original is at the end of this piece. For the country concerned is not Israel but Jordan. You can find the original article here at The Gatestone Institute. The fact that the world hardly raises a murmur at the real and everyday discrimination Palestinians face in Jordan, Syria and Egypt whilst screaming about Israel I think can only be explained by use of the word anti-Semitism.

'In Lebanon, thousands of Palestinians have been massacred by Lebanese and Syrians over the past four decades. In addition, the 500,000 Palestinians living in Lebanon have long been subjected to state-sponsored apartheid laws that deny them access to work, education and health services.

Palestinians carrying Jordanian passports say that unlike his father, King Abdullah has been doing his utmost to "marginalize" them through a series of laws, royal decrees and security measures.
The king is obviously afraid of the "demographic threat" that the Palestinian population poses. He is also wary of talk about turning Jordan into a Palestinian state -- a move that would, of course, end the royal family's rule of the Hashemite kingdom.

Jordanians of Palestinian origin suffer from discrimination in many walks of life, including when they are held in prison. Discrimination is also employed against Palestinians when they seek to enroll in Jordanian universities, where priority is given to Jordanians with no Palestinian roots.

The letter also expressed concern over King Abdullah's ongoing effort to limit the number of Palestinians in parliament, adding that such a move would be in violation of the constitution.'

The name game

The BBC reported that the 'Most popular baby names in 2011 are Harry and Amelia',m they included a list of the top 5 names and wrote about some of them. They did include this wordcloud which hints at what I am going to write about
I took a look at The ONS's own site and the data therein. What I noticed from the list of the 50 top Boys names in England is that the name Mohammed or its variances appear three times. Mohammed has 3,013 births, Muhammad 2,822 and Mohammad 1,019., That makes a total of 6,854 births which would make it the second most popular name for boys in England, just behind Harry. Apparently according to The Times (14 August): ‘The ONS does not combine variant spellings of names, but if it did then there would be 8,024 children named Muhammad or one of its variants, putting the name in first place.’ If you look at certain areas of England the position is even more stark. For whilst none of the variants of Mohammad appear in the top 10 lists for the North-East, North-west, East Midlands, East, South East or South West, it appears twice in Yorkshire & Humber, West Midlands (where Mohammed on its own is the second most popular name) and London (where Muhammad is the third most popular name on its own). The BBC have form in hiding the rise of the name Mohammad from its readers, I remember writing a similar report last year and maybe the year before as well. Why do you think they do this?

The blood libel

I stumbled across a rather nasty individual on Twitter who threw at me the accusation that when Jews bake matzah they include non-Jewish blood in it. I challenged @Jew4palestine several times about this but this self-professed Jew just couldn't or wouldn't provide proof. In fact I challenged him about quite a few of his statements, always with the same result - insults or silence. Last night he apparently decided that he had enough of being out-argued and made his tweets 'protected'. Part of me is sad that I will not be able to try and correct @Jew4palestine's errors of fact but another part of me rejoices that his vile slurs will have a smaller audience now than previously. Hopefully the only people who will see his tweets from now on will be people with mindsets similar to his. As to the matter of the blood libel, @jew4palestine presented this as  proof...

That is the story of a bad man, doing bad things. A rabbi trading in organs for transplant and making a profit, is a nasty story but does not in any way prove the blood libel. This is not surprising as the blood libel is a lie. For those of you who don't know what I am talking about, consider yourselves fortunate. However I think I should explain so you know the sort of lies that are spread about Jews, including by Jews such as jew4palestine. Wikipedia defines blood libel thus:
'Blood libel (also blood accusation[1][2]) is a false accusation or claim[3][4][5] that religious minorities, usually Jews, murder children to use their blood in certain aspects of their religious rituals and holidays.[1][2][6] Historically, these claims—alongside those of well poisoning and host desecration—have been a major theme in European persecution of Jews.[4]
Blood libels typically allege that Jews require human blood for the baking of matzos for Passover, although this element was absent in the earliest cases that claimed (the contemporary) Jews reenacted the crucifixion. The accusations often assert that the blood of Christian children is especially coveted, and, historically, blood libel claims have been made to account for otherwise unexplained deaths of children. In some cases, the alleged victim of human sacrifice has become venerated as a martyr, a holy figure around whom a martyr cult might arise. Four of these have been previously canonized as saints, namely William of Norwich, Little Saint Hugh of Lincoln, Simon of Trent (Simon was decanonized[7] in the 20th century), and Gavriil Belostoksky who remains canonized in the Russian Orthodox Church.'
That Wikipedia article gives some interesting historical examples of the blood libel, going back to the first century BC. It is the modern day libels that interest me, especially those that emanate from Israel's neighbours, Wikipedia lists a few:

In 2003 a private Syrian film company created a 29-part television series Ash-Shatat ("The Diaspora"). This series originally aired in Lebanon in late 2003 and was broadcast by Al-Manar, a satellite television network owned by Hezbollah. This TV series, based on the antisemitic forgery The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, shows the Jewish people as engaging in a conspiracy to rule the world, and presents Jews as people who murder Christian children, drain their blood and use this blood to bake matzah.

During a speech in 2007, Raed Salah, the leader of the northern branch of the Islamic Movement in Israel, accused Jews of using children's blood to bake bread. "We have never allowed ourselves to knead [the dough for] the bread that breaks the fast in the holy month of Ramadan with children's blood," he said. "Whoever wants a more thorough explanation, let him ask what used to happen to some children in Europe, whose blood was mixed in with the dough of the [Jewish] holy bread." [42]
In an address that aired on Al-Aqsa TV on March 31, 2010 (as translated by MEMRI), Salah Eldeen Sultan (Arabic: صلاح الدين سلطان‎), founder of the American Center for Islamic Research in Columbus, Ohio, the Islamic American University in Southfield, Michigan, and the Sultan Publishing Co.[46] and described in 2005 as "one of America's most noted Muslim scholars," alleged that Jews kidnap Christians and others in order to slaughter them and use their blood for making matzos. Sultan, who is currently a lecturer of Muslim jurisprudence at the Cairo University stated that: "The Zionists kidnap several non-Muslims [sic] – Christians and others... this happened in a Jewish neighborhood in Damascus. They killed the French doctor, Toma, who used to treat the Jews and others for free, in order to spread Christianity. Even though he was their friend and they benefited from him the most, they took him on one of these holidays and slaughtered him, along with the nurse. Then they kneaded the matzos with the blood of Dr. Toma and his nurse. They do this every year. The world must know these facts about the Zionist entity and its terrible corrupt creed. The world should know this."[47][48][49][50][51]

Here's a couple of examples that Wikipedia have missed:
From Likud.nl:

'Following is a translation of a virulently anti-Semitic article entitled
‘The Talmud, the Jews and Human Sacrifice’ which appeared in the Egyptian
opposition newspaper Al-Shaab on November 17, 1998.
The article was written by Dr. Fahmi Abd al-Salaam.
It asserts that Jews
use blood of Christians to bake passover matzah and carry out human sacrifices:
Throughout history, the Jews have been known to be a depressed and whiny
people. There is a clear connection between the Jewish race and depression,
and many writers have described Jewish depression as a trait characteristic
of this despicable race. And we all remember Shakespeare’s Shylock who was
absorbed by dark bitterness and demanded a pound of human flesh.
In the important book ‘The Jews in Egypt in the Modern Era’ by researcher
Orpah Abdah Ali, which was published in 1991 and which surveyed the life
and activity of the Jews in Egypt from the time of Muhammad Ali through
1967, there is a chapter about the religious ceremonies conducted by Jews
on behalf of their God, who is the blood-thirsty God which the Jews
invented in accordance with their nature. In that chapter it states that
the Talmud, which is full of errors, falsehoods and fabrications, played an
important part in the formulation of the of the phenomenon of ‘fanatic
nationalism’ among the Jews, and they prefer it over the Torah.
It also states in the chapter that the Jews carry out human sacrifices to
please their blood-thirsty God. In this context, the book quotes the Talmud
as saying “We have two ways of satisfying our God: the first is on the
Feast of Matzah [Passover], using matzah mixed with human blood, and the
second is the circumcision ceremony for our children.” This, while the
Jewish Encyclopedia says, “The rabbis have given their approval for
carrying out human sacrifices of Christians to our God.”
The author of the book surveys the methods by which the rabbis slaughter a
person prior to his being sacrificed to God:
1. The first method is that the victim is brought while still alive and
placed into a large barrel with sharp needles embedded in its side. The
needles pierce the victim’s skin and his blood begins to drip into the
barrel. The more the victim moves due to the pain, the worse his wounds
become until finally his body is emptied of all blood. Thus, when his soul
departs from his body, the last drop of his blood leaves as well.
2. The second method is used in places which are not secure for Jews, where
they are compelled to carry out their crimes quickly without enjoying them:
they slaughter the victim by severing his neck and arteries after having
placed a receptacle underneath him so the blood will flow into it.
Afterwards, the blood is gathered in a jar. These jars are brought on
Passover and Purim to the leading rabbi, who blesses the blood. Then, they
mix the blood together with flour to make matzah. Afterwards, the matzah is
distributed to God-fearing Jews and they eat it with an appetite
commensurate with the depth of their hatred for Jesus and Christians.
The conditions which the victim must fulfil to be fit for Purim, as noted
by the author, are as follows: he must be an adult Christian who is
religious – preferably a priest – and he must be gentle and shy – which
attests to the quality of his blood – and not sexually active. Similarly,
he must be a friend of the Jews, so that the blood will not be contaminated
by hatred for them. The slaughtering of the victim is entrusted to a group
of 7 Jews, of whom at least one must be a rabbi.
I had thought that the matter of Jewish matzah mixed with blood was a
fabrication, but the shocking thing is that it is a fact, a fact which has
been proved in some 400 cases which have become known, while the number of
cases that have not been revealed is far higher. It was in this framework
that the Jews slaughtered a young Egyptian girl in 1881 in Port Said.'

The blood libel lives on in many Middle East countries here is one video as an example

The extraordinary good blogger Elder of Ziyon has a fascinating article from last year on this very subject, I suggest you read it.

Elser of Ziyon  has a more recent article that I found even more interesting, here's an extract or so:
'Dr. Salman bin Fahd al-Odah, Assistant Secretary General of the Federation of Muslim Scholars, spoke in a wide-ranging interview on a Ramadan TV program that was shown throughout the Arab world.

Al-Odah's topic was - Jews.

He spoke approvingly of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, as well as an Arabic book called "Stones on the Chessboard" with a similar theme.

...

He then went on to say that the Talmud and other Jewish holy books demand the murder of non-Jewish children in order to make matzoh for Passover, and he said that this is documented historically as well as in an Arabic novel called "The blood of the unleavened bread of Zion." He also said, as proof, "I read a story that a doctor was working in a lab and he lived near a Jewish family so they asked him about human blood, and he began to investigate only to discover that scandal" that Jews bake matzoh with human blood.

This sort of anti-semitism is mainstream Arab TV fare.  '

So to @jew4palestine I issue a challenge, find me one piece of proof that Jews use blood in the making of matzah or withdraw your foul accusation.

@jew4palestine has proved to be a rich source of material, more blogposts based upon his tweets may well follow...

I think Mrs NotaSheep knows this feeling

Well said sir

From Newsnight's Twitter...
Well said @jhnbrssndn

Read and weep - ‘I am entitled to live in a house like this’

‘I am entitled to live in a house like this’

The Mail  have the weep-making details, here's an extract:
'Mrs Mahmoud, who has five young daughters and two teenage sons, insisted she had the right to live in the house - which only underwent a £76,000 refit - half of which was paid for by public money - three years ago.

All of her children live at the address apart from her oldest son who is in prison for drug dealing.

She told Sun reporters: 'I deserve to live in a nice house and get benefits. In this country, it is our right to live here.''

Boris Johnson's over-enthusiastic nature

From a few years back, Boris confuses rugby and football...

Boris Johnson isn't stuffy, unlike Seb Coe

Watch to the end of this piece of video and contrast Seb Coe's primness with Boris Johnson's enthusiasm and lack of embarrassment.

I have struggled to understand Boris Johnson's appeal to 'ordinary voters' but I think that I am starting to understand. You can see most politicians weighing up what they say, making sure that they don't stray from policy or speak inconvenient or uncomfortable truths. Boris by contrast seems (and I do mean seems) to say what he wants and thus means. It's a great gift and one that may well  propel him to become the next leader of the Conservative party, Prime Minister and maybe even President of the United States (he is eligible).

Guess which newspaper the BBC buys the most of?

Guess which newspaper the BBC buys the most of? Not that tricky is it, but here at The Commentator is the proof.

These numbers are all the more incredible (not surprising) when you realise how small The Guardian and Independent's circulations are in comparison to The Telegraph, Times and Mail. As The Commentator correctly points out:
'The Guardian has a circulation of 230,541 per day compared to the Daily Telegraph’s 634,113 and the Daily Mail with 1.7 million. Meanwhile, the Independent is lagging on a rather sorry-looking 90,001. If you’re too lazy to do the basic mathematics, allow us: that means that two of Britain’s most popular right of centre newspapers combined have a circulation of some 2.3 million compared to The Indie and The Guardian which weigh in at just over 320,000. Odd then, that despite besting their axis of left-wing rivals by seven times in the national market, the BBC procures almost 10,000 less copies of the Mail and Telegraph in the period displayed.'
If the BBC is not biased to the left then why does it buy left of centre papers in numbers that are out of all proportion to the rest of the country? Similarly, does the BBC's position in opposition to Israel have anything to do with its out of proportion purchasing of the two most anti-Israel broadsheet newspapers?

Ignorance everywhere

If you follow me on Twitter then you might have noticed that I am currently fact checking and challenging the views of @Jew4palestine. Today he and others were on the Israel is an apartheid state line and I got a little fed up. I noted earlier today that the 'apartheid state of Israel' is indeed banning entry to part of Israel to people not of one religion. The problem is that it is non-Muslims who are being banned from the Temple Mount, control of which is being given to Muslims for the last five days of Ramadan. Yes, that's right Jews will be banned from the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Apartheid state? No.

However here's an example of a form of apartheid in the Middle East...
It's a road sign to be found on the road to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It's not their for the period of the haj, it's a permanent fixture. Non-Muslims are banned from entry to Mecca, some do sneak in it is true, but they are officially banned and the punishment if caught can be extreme.

Here are some more examples of apartheid from some other Islamic countries. These are excerpts from the State Department's International Religious Freedom Reports for 2009:
YEMEN
"...the General Election Committee has adopted a policy barring all non-Muslims from running for Parliament..."

AFGHANISTAN
"Citizens who convert from Islam to the Baha'i faith face risk of persecution, similar to that of Christian converts, up to and including the death penalty..."

JORDAN
"...the Government prohibits conversion from Islam in that it accords primacy to Shari'a, which prohibits Muslims from converting ... The Government freely allows conversion to Islam..."

INDONESIA
"Article 156 of the Criminal Code makes spreading hatred, heresy, and blasphemy punishable by up to five years in prison. Although the law applies to all officially recognized religions, the few cases in which it has been enforced have almost always involved blasphemy and heresy against Islam..."

But Israel is the apartheid state?

The definition of mean spirited?

I was going to post the video of Boris Johnson shaking his bootie along to the Spice Girls at last night's Olympics Closing Ceremony but all the video now shows is this
Oh nice one IOC, just when I think I couldn't despise you anymore, you do this.

The BBC respond, inadequately as usual

Late in July I complained to the BBC about their, seemingly deliberate, misrepresenting of Egypt's new President's views on Israel.

Here's the complaint that I submitted:
'{Complaint title:} Misleading analysis of Muhammad Mursi's views

{Complaint:} You state:
'Relations with Israel and the US are among the most difficult
challenges facing Mr Mursi.

As a pragmatist, he will likely be keen to respect the peace treaty with
Israel and maintain good relations with the US and the West.

In his first televised address, he emphasised that he will honour all
international treaties and agreements signed by Egypt.'

Why do you not report what Muhammad Mursi means by what he said and what
he has said subsequently?
'Mursi is careful to qualify his statements and say that Egypt's
acceptance of the peace agreement depends on Israel's honoring of this
agreement - an assertion that is open to various interpretations. For
example, in a televised interview before the elections, he said that
Israel's honoring the agreement meant making peace with all the peoples
of the region, implementing the Palestinians' right of return, and
establishing a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.[3] On
another occasion, he said that Israel's attack on Gaza constituted a
violation of the peace agreement.[4]

These qualifications to the acceptance of the peace agreement with
Israel might serve Mursi and the MB as a means of exerting pressure on
Israel and the U.S., by demanding concessions in return for a continued
honoring of the agreement on Egypt's part. '

The BBC's habit of taking at face value one sentence from one speech and
ignoring all else that an Islamic leader says means that you are
misleading your readers.

RE URL:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/
world-middle-east-18582746
The BBC have replied to me and it's the sort of reply that the BBC specialise in:
Dear Sir/Madam,

The article you cite
(http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/
world-middle-east-18582746) is intended as a
succinct overview of the challenges facing the Egyptian president.

After reviewing the article, we do not believe that we have
misrepresented President Mursi's statements and interviews on relations
with Israel and the US. We do not agree that stating that one party's
honouring of an agreement depends on the other party doing the same is
open to interpretations. The passage you quote from our article -
"Mursi is careful to qualify his statements and say that Egypt's
acceptance of the peace agreement depends on Israel's honouring of this
agreement" - is in fact a reasonable paraphrasing of Mr Mursi's own view
of the challenges facing his administration with regard to Camp David, as
outlined in the passage you cite from his televised pre-election
interview.

Regards,

BBC Monitoring
I have responded:

Dear BBC Monitoring

I am sorry but your response just doesn't properly answer my complaint.

Someone reading the original BBC article, with no other information to go on, would be lead to believe that President Mursi wants to respect and honour the peace treaty with Israel; no doubts, no queries, no conditions. In fact there is ample evidence from President Mursi's own mouth that his definition of respecting and honour the peace treaty is not quite what an innocent reader might expect.

President Mursi said in a televised interview before the elections that Israel's honouring the agreement meant making peace with all the peoples of the region, implementing the Palestinians' right of return, and establishing a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. The second and third of those conditions are somewhat controversial to the Israelis, to say the least.

By ignoring the conditions that President Mursi openly puts on his honouring and respecting Egypt's peace treaty with Israel, the BBC misrepresents President Mursi's position and makes his position seem more reasonable than it actually is.

Please reconsider your initial response to me.

Regards

Rules and Guidelines for Westerners reporting on the Middle East

I have just stumbled across a post on another blog that is so good and so accurate that I will repost it in its entirety here. The full post can be found here on Edgar 1981's blog. How I have missed seeing it for over a year I do not know.

Please read th whole piece and you will get a real insight into how much of the world's media report on the Arab - Israeli conflict... So much of this piece is true that it crosses from satire into factual description.

Rules and Guidelines for Westerners reporting on the Middle East

Following  recent media reporting about Israel I am pleased to reveal the following rule book issued to all members of the Western media corps:

Rule 1 (Incidents involving possible loss of Arab lives)

If there is any incident either in Israel or near its borders in which there are claims of Arab losses you should write a report with the following headline:
“Israeli troops kill X Arab civilians including Y children”
For the numbers X and Y simply choose the highest figures from the following sources:
  • Syrian State Television
  • Hamas
  • Hezbollah
  • The Palestinian Authority
  • Al Jazeera
  • Any person within 20 miles of the incident who is wearing a kaffiya or a Burka.
You do not need to state the source of your claim. In the unlikely event that an Israeli spokesman claims either a different figure or that the incident simply did not happen you may end your report with the following:
“An Israeli spokesman claimed, without evidence, that they ‘acted in self-defence’.
Note that there are certain circumstances where Arab deaths from violence should not be reported at all. This is when Arabs themselves openly claim to be the killers. This applies, for example, in the following cases:
  • Mass slaughter in fighting between different rival groups (Hamas vs PA, Hamas vs Al Qaeda, PA vs Islamic Jihad etc)
  • Where the victims are accused of being Israeli collaborators
If news of these killings does leak out into the Western media then simply write a brief statement including the words:
“The underlying cause of the violence was the oppressive Israeli occupation”
Any claims of deaths of Israelis during such incidents can be assumed to be false and hence ignored.

Rule 2: Incidents involving loss of Israeli lives

If Israelis are killed in a terrorist attack, then treat this as an opportunity to take a vacation from reporting.

However, you should immediately return from your vacation if it is discovered that an Israeli family in Jerusalem is planning to build an extra bedroom to accommodate their new baby. In that case you should write a story with the headline
Israelis destroy chance of peace by announcing new West Bank settlement plans.
At the end of the article you can use the following statement:
An Israeli government spokesman claimed that the settlement plans were in response to what they claimed was a ‘terrorist attack’.
The only exceptions to this rule are as follows:
  • In the event of a suicide bombing you may interview the suicide bomber’s family and write a sympathetic piece stating how the bomber was a loving family person driven to his/her actions by the Israeli occupation. Be careful to refer to the actual suicide bombing only in vague abstract terms, never mentioning the victims or their families.
  • In the event of a particularly brutal terrorist attack, such as the slaughter of an entire family in their home in which a baby is decapitated, you can, if news of the attack reaches outside Israel, write a brief report with the following words:
“Although the Israelis claim that a terrorist attack occurred at X, it is more likely to have been the result of a disgruntled Thai worker, Jewish militants intent on sparking anti-Arab violence, or simply a family dispute. ”

Make sure you never mention the widepsread celebrations that take place throughout the Palestinian territories. Instead you should quote a Palestinian Authority spokesman, who having just led the celebrations with proclamations such as "This will be the fate of all Jews" in Arabic tells you in English that the Palestinian Authority do not approve of the attack as it damages their cause, and that in any case such actions are the natural response to the Israeli occupation.

Rule 3: Demographics

Remember the following important demographics in any report:
  • Any Palestinian under the age of 24 is a child.
  • Any Palestinian under the age of 12 is a baby.
  • Any Palestinian over the age of 33 is a grandfather/grandmother.
  • There are no Israeli ‘civilians’ and certainly no Israeli ‘children’. They are just soldiers or settlers.
  • Every Palestinian is a civilian. Those who produce suicide videos armed with machine guns vowing to kill as many Jews as possible are simply civilians forced by the Israeli occupation into becoming ‘militants’.
  • Palestinian cities and towns are refugees camps.
  • Israeli cities and towns are settlements.
Rule 4: Speaking to the natives

Never interview an Israeli. Although this is especially important after an incident such as the above, it applies equally to any aspect of life in Israel or the Middle East. The only exceptions to this rule are:
  • Haaretz reporters
  • Members of the Islamic Movement
  • Amos Oz
  • Any recent American Jewish immigrant living in the West Bank who uses Biblical quotations every other sentence.
To ensure this rule is adhered to it is safest to simply never speak to any Israeli Jew. Hence, make sure that whenever your are in Israel you either stay in the (Arab) American Colony Hotel Jersusalem or are hosted by a member of the Palestinian Authority or a person with a Haaretz press pass.

Rule 5 (Terminology)
  • The word ‘terrorist’ must never be used except when referring to Jewish residents of the West Bank accused of acting provocatively in the presence of an Arab.
  • Any Arab in a combat zone is unarmed if they are not carrying a mobile missile launcher.  Any kind of guns, knives, swords, rocks, sticks or heavy metal items are, as a matter of course carried by unarmed Arabs since it is part of their cultural heritage.
  • In any report you must insert the word “settler” after the word “Israeli”, unless it is known that they live outside of Central Tel Aviv, in which case you must add the word “fanatical” before “Israeli”.
  • When mentioning the name of any Israeli city or town (i.e. settlement) you must also include the words occupied terroritory.
  • When mentioning any Israeli politician you must insert the word “hardline”, “extremist”, or “right-wing” before their name (if in doubt it is best to insert all three words).
  • In any report about Palestinians use the following words: “authentic”, “welcoming”, “poor”.
  • When mentioning any Palestinian politician you must insert the word “moderate” before their name, even if they are a leader of Hamas.
Rule 6 (Peace activists)

Any non-Arab in the region who is involved in violent anti-Israel activities is a peace activist. If such a person dies under any circumstances then you must state before any evidence is produced that this person “was killed by Israeli troops”. You must also put out an urgent call to all journalists in the world to write about nothing else for the next 7 days. Also contact every playwrite to request a play dedicated to this martyr of the Palestinian cause.

Rule 7 (Arabic speeches)

Never use the services of an Arabic translator to find out what Arab leaders and clerics are telling their own people, as in “We will not rest until every Jew is dead”. This will ensure you do not have to waste time telling readers that they have directly contradicted what they told you in English (as in “We want peace with Israel”). It will also save you having to explain (or even report) that wild anti-Semitic conspiracy theories are believed by 99.999% of all Arabs. A simple rule of thumb is the following:
Any statement X made to you by an Arab in English is to be treated as unimpeachable truth. Any statement Y made by an Arab in Arabic that contradicts X, can be treated as false and hence ignored.
In the unlikely event that news of the translation gets into the main stream media you simply have to report that the translation is the work of MEMRI – a Zionist organisation dedicated to mis-translation to make Arabs look like anti-Semitic, homophobic, misogynistic psychopaths. If, even after that, the translation is proved to be accurate then you can simply say that the statement was "theatrical rhetoric which was never supposed to be meant literally".

Rule 8 (Israeli evidence)

Be aware that in most major stories where you are able to cast Israel as the devil incarnate, the Israelis subsequently produce hard evidence (videos, documents etc) that prove they were not guilty of the claims that had been made. In such cases there is no need to report on the new evidence. However, if you wish to remind readers of the original story you can include the following words at the end:
“Israel has claimed that some of these accusations are not true, but sources cast doubt on the authenticity of the Israeli evidence”.
Rule 9 (Rocket attacks against Israel)

The rule here is simple: Never report on any rocket attacks against Israel (also note: there is no Israeli town called Sderot). The only exception to this rule is if Israel eventually retaliates. In that case you can lead with a major story reporting that Israel has attacked civilians and you can include the following statement at the end of your 26 page report:
“The Israelis claim that their attack was in response to home made rocket attacks from Gaza/Lebanon.”

Rule 10 (Geography and Religion)

  • Never look at a map of the whole Middle East. That way you will never have to reveal that Israel is less than the size of Wales surrounded by Muslim countries with a land mass several thousand times as large.
  • Although you can refer to the fact that 20% of Israel's population are Arabs you should only do so if you include the words "oppressed minority", "abused", "underclass", "impoverished".
  • Never ask why over 50% of Israel’s Jewish population appears to have dark or even black skin. This might otherwise force you to reveal that, contrary to your assumption that they are all of European/American origin they are actually native Middle Eastern and Ethiopian.
  • Never ask why there are 0 Jews living in Gaza, 0 Jews living in the PA occupied part of the West Bank, 0 Jews living in Jordan, less than 50 Jews living in Egypt, less than 20 Jews living in Syria, and less than 30 Jews living in Lebanon. Do, however, say that Israel's policies make it an apartheid state committed to ethinic cleansing of all Arabs.
  • Never ask why Israel is the only country in the Middle East whose Christian population is expanding.
  • Never ask why Jersusalem is mentioned 800 times in the Old Testament and 0 times in the Koran. Do, however, refer at least once in every report to the fact that Jerusalem is sacred to Muslims.
Rule 11 (Tactics of War)

  • Targetted assassinations of terrorists carried out by Israelis are, under all circumstances, heineous war crimes. When reporting such crimes always use the words widespread international condemnation and invoke the spectre of  a UN Security Council resolution. Never mention that the assassination was carried out with such careful planning and skill that no civilian was harmed during the operation. Also never mention the direct threat the terrorist posed to Israel, nor the Israelis previously killed by the terrorist.
  • Targetted assassinations of terrorists carried out by any country other than Israelis are, under all circumstances, causes for jubiliation. When reporting such crimes always use the words widespread international support although you can include the words "concern expressed by some Muslim militants". Never mention the fact that, unlike assassinations carried out by Israelis, dozens of innocent civilians were also killed. Also never mention the fact that the terrorist did not pose a direct threat to the country carrying out the attack.
  • Never mention the fact that in Palestinian suicide terrorist attacks, children are always specifically targetted. Just stress that such attacks are the inevitable result of the 'occupation' and 'poverty'.
  • The total blockading of a country's borders and carpet bombing of its cities by nations from the other side of the world   (as in, e.g.  Libya) is a highly comendable tactic even though the country poses no threat to its neighbours. Stress the tyrannical nature of the regime being bombed (and do not remind readers that 6 months earlier you were telling them what a wonderful reformer their leader was) and never remind readers about the civilians living there (who mostly hate the regime)
  • The blockading of Gaza's sea border to stop weapons deliveries, and the targeted bombing of its terror facilities by its neighbour (Israel) who the Gazans have shelled indiscriminately, is a heineous war crime, that must be the subject of multiple UN resolutions, enquiries, and 'peace' flotillas.  Never mention the tyrannical nature of the Hamas regime but focus only on the civilians living there (without mentioning that they support the regime and all rejoice in the deaths of Israeli citizens). You should also point out the 'hypocrisy of the West' in not imposing a no-fly zone on Israel.

Rule 12 (Peace Partners)

Under no circumstances ever mention that the Hamas Charter calls for the death of all Jews and cites the Protocols of the Elders of Zion for its inspiration. Similarly, never mention that, even after the Oslo accords, the Palestinian Authority has never renounced its own charter calling for the destruction of Israel.

Rule 13 - The Final Option

If you have any doubt about the content of a story, or if you simply cannot be bothered to write anything yourself, then simply copy and paste whatever Al Jazeera is saying on its website.

Mrs NotaSheep's innocent question

One evening recently Mrs NotaSheep and I were watching the BBC 10 o'clock BBC news where Stephanie Flanders was giving her opinion on something or other. I asked Mrs NotaSheep if she knew what Stephanie Flanders' nickname was, she said no. I told her it was Stephanie '2 Eds' Flanders, did she know why? She didn't. I did explain why but it struck me that there must be many other people watching the BBC's 'unbiased by charter' news who do not know the back-story of one of the BBC's leading journalists.

Stephanie Flanders earned her nickname as Wikipedia delicately put it
'She previously dated Ed Balls and Ed Miliband who went on to become Shadow Chancellor and leader of the Labour Party respectively.'
What is less well known about the BBC's economics editor is that she also worked as a speechwriter and adviser to the U.S. Treasury Secretary Lawrence H. Summers in 1997. You will not be surprised to learn that Mr Summers was the United States Secretary of the Treasury for Bill Clinton.

So in summary Stephanie Flanders previously dated two men who went on to be the two leading figures in the Labour party and then went on to work for a US Democrat administration.

I am not saying that Stephanie Flanders is biased in favour of the British Labour party and against the British Conservative party. I am not saying that Stephanie Flanders is biased in favour of the US Democrat party and against the US Republican party. Many would say that she is guilty of both these types of bias, what do you think? However I do think that the BBC, if they insist on presenting Stephanie Flanders as their unbiased economics editor should at least subtitle her reports with a health warning as to her background.

Rioter jailed for looting shop lived in £3m flat - Telegraph

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/9463529/Rioter-jailed-for-looting-shop-lived-in-3m-flat.html

So much of what's wrong with UK in this one news story. Not just the £3m flat but also the pathetic sentences handed out. UK is broken.

Is Anti-Zionism Geo-Political Anti-Semitism?

Daniel Silverman at Seedy Road believes so and has vreated a marvelous post to illustrate the point. Here are a few extracts:
'"The settlements are the main obstacle to peace."

No, they're not. The settlements are a dead-end project that serve little purpose other than to antagonize the Palestinians, to disingenuously placate Israel's rightist/fundamentalist sector (the "Israeli Street"), and to delay and complicate Israel's inevitable extrication from the territories, but they are not the main obstacle to peace. Sorry, but, in the grand scheme of things, constructing housing (for whomever) just isn't all that terrible a thing to do.
Rather, the main obstacle to peace is, and has always been, the consequences of Arab governments' intransigence: the refusal of Arab despots to recognize Israel's legitimacy, their poisoning their populations with vile and primitive anti-Semitic rhetoric, their using Israel and Jews as scapegoats to deflect towards an easy target their own people's justified anger and frustration at their lack of freedoms, and most of all, their ongoing state of war (or, in two cases, ice cold peace) with the Jewish state. The result is a brainwashed youth nourished on a diet of hate, racism, and violence; prime candidates for being suckered into suicide terrorism.
Building houses or terrorists' mass murder of civilians: which is the greater obstacle to peace?
And by the way, it's hardly as if anti-Israel violence began only after its acquisition of the territories. The PLO, for example, was established in 1964, three years before the Six Day War (which was precipitated by several countries' amassing of 547,000 troops along Israel's borders, and declaring their intent of destroying Israel for good).
We can hope that the so-called Arab Spring will herald a new era of freedom and openness among Israel's neighbors, who might turn to Israel as an example of liberalism, tolerance, and democracy. Whaddaya say folks, care to join your neighbors to forge a brighter, happier future for all of us?'
'"If Israel stopped behaving like a pariah state, Diaspora Jews would have nothing to fear."
Well, sure, right? I mean if Israel is constantly destabilizing the region with its expansionist actions, and continues to oppress the Palestinians, of course there's bound to be backlash around the globe.
Let's see...
"Chinese launch crackdown in Tibet. Take-away restaurants put on high alert."
"Japanese continue to deny ethnic Koreans citizenship. Sony and Honda step up security at US offices."
"German-born Turks still feel sting of persecution. Budweiser and PBR fear boycott."
"Sudanese Arabs continue slaughter in Darfur. American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee receives 'credible threats'".
"Civil strife continues in the Congo. African-Americans sense 'clear and present danger'".
Do any of these headlines smack of familiarity? No, I didn't think so. Only Israel's actions prompt overseas retribution (and far more often in Europe than elsewhere). At any rate, please recall: Israel is defending its liberal democracy against violent reactionary theocratic forces whose policies make the Tea Party look like the ACLU. Can the same be said of the situation in China, Japan, Germany, Congo, Sudan, or any number of other comparable cases?'

 Well said Daniel, well said.

Not 100% but...

I am not 100% but in tonight's 10pm BBC 1 NEWS when referring to Egypt seeking the militants who killed 16 of Egyptian army, did the word terrorists appear?

If so I suppose it's official BBC policy that Egypt attacks terrorists whilst Israel attacks militants...

I thought it was the Jews that were to blame

The BBC/Guardian/Independent narrative is that those nasty Israelis (for which you can really read Jews) are making life impossible for the Christians living in Gaza. I found this little piece hidden away in The Guardian that tells the real story.

'Gaza Christians long for days before Hamas cancelled Christmas
Since the Palestinian Authority left the Gaza Strip, festive celebrations and displays of crucifixes have become taboo
...
There hasn't been a Christmas tree in Gaza City's main square since Hamas pushed the Palestinian Authority out of Gaza in 2007 and Christmas is no longer a public holiday.
Imad Jelda is an Orthodox Christian who runs a youth training centre in Gaza City. With unemployment hovering at 23%, he has seen young Christian men leave to study and work abroad in their droves. "People here do not celebrate Christmas anymore because they are nervous," Jelda said. "The youth in particular have a fear inside themselves."
Karam Qubrsi, 23, and his younger brother Peter, 21, are the eldest sons in one of Gaza's 55 remaining Catholic families. Both wear prominent wooden crucifixes. "Jesus tells me, 'if you can't carry my cross, you don't belong to me,'" Peter explained. It's a demonstration of faith that has caused him some trouble.
He describes being stopped in the street by a Hamas official who told him to remove the cross. "I told him it's not his business and that I wouldn't," Peter said. After being threatened with arrest he was eventually let go, but the incident scared him.
The brightly decorated tree in the Qubrsis' living room sits at odds with the sombre mood. Their sisters Rani, 29, and Mai, 27, left Gaza in 2007 when the 30-year-old manager of Gaza's Bible Society bookstore, where their husbands worked, was shot dead, having been accused by radical elements of proselytising.
Their parents are currently in Israel where their mother is receiving treatment for pancreatic cancer. Israel applies strict restrictions to Palestinians hoping to leave the Gaza Strip, meaning the brothers are unable to join them. A quota of 500 applicants will be given permission to enter the West Bank this Christmas but only people younger than 16 and older than 35 will be considered.

"Christmas for us means going to Bethlehem, being with family. This year we'll do nothing," Karam said.
The Qubrsi brothers hold out little hope for Gaza. They agree that life would be better for the Christians here if the Palestinian Authority were to return but they doubt any factional peace would last.

"Many people want the Palestinian Authority to come back just so they can take their revenge," Peter said.

"This is not a Christian environment. There are no good universities, there is no opportunity to work, no apartments to rent and so no way we can get married. We have no future here."'
I wonder if the BBC/Guardian will remember this story come Christmas 2012 when they run their usual anti-Israel hate pieces...

Which is the 'apartheid state'?

Palestinians in Syria "are not allowed to vote or hold Syrian passports." Moreover, they cannot "stand for parliament or other political offices. Palestinians are barred from buying farmland and prohibited from owning more than one house. The female descendant of a Palestinian refugee can become a Syrian citizen by marrying a Syrian man. The male descendants of Palestinian men and their children are barred from acquiring Syrian citizenship, even if they marry Syrian women."

Yet Israel is the apartheid state?

Why do so many Palestinians (and others) think they should kill Jews?

'Palestinian Media Watch has found that the PA teaches an ideology of virulent hatred of Jews
and Israel that mandates the killing of Jews solely because they are Jews. The murder of Jews
is presented not only as beneficial to Muslims and Arabs, but as necessary for all humankind.
These findings are based on a thorough study and analysis of eight years of official PA
television and PA-controlled daily newspapers. This report documents how this hate ideology
has been taught for years, well before the war started in September 2000, and continues even
after the death of Yasser Arafat:'
That's an extract from this Palestinian Media Watch paper do go and read the whole piece.

Here's some examples, there are dozens more in the PAL Watch document:
“Kill them all... we won’t leave a single Jew here.” Young Girl [PA TV (Fatah), Oct. 22, 2000]
Dr. Mahmoud Mustafa Najem: “The Jews are Jews, and we are forbidden to forget their character traits even for a moment, even for a blink of an eye.” [PA TV (Fatah), Dec. 6, 2002
This presentation of Jews as having inherently negative character traits was taught for years in the PA curriculum: “One must beware of the Jews, for they are treacherous and disloyal.” [Islamic Education for Ninth Grade, page 79] “Treachery and disloyalty are character traits of the Jews and therefore one should beware of them.” [Islamic Education for Ninth Grade, page 87] These books were based on Jordanian schoolbooks. Though the PA was notified of this content in 1999, it refused an American offer to fund the reprinting of these books without this and other anti-Jewish content.
Crossword Puzzle Clue: “Jewish character trait spelled backwards” Solution: “Treachery” [Al-Quds, Dec. 20, 2000]
“We are waging this cruel war with the brothers of the monkeys and pigs, the Jews and the sons of Zion.” [PA TV (Fatah), Sept. 12, 2004]
Sheikh Ibrahim Mudayris: “The Muslim remembers how the Jews corrupted the land... Oh Muslims! The Jews are Jews. Their character and custom are the corruption and destruction of this land. We keep warning you: the Jews are a cancer that spreads inside the body of the Islamic and Arab nation.... They invest in the East Asian countries, which were destroyed [by the Tsunami] because of the Jewish and American corruption and destruction.” [PA TV (Fatah), Jan. 7, 2005]
Senior historian Issam Sissalem used a “parasitic worm” simile in referring to the Jews who came to Israel: “[Jews-Israelis] are like a parasitic worm that eats a snail and lives in its shell. We will not let anyone live in our shell.” [PA TV (Fatah), Dec. 21, 2004]
“If we presented this before a judge [now]...he would renew this condition ... the solution is that no Jew should live there... The prosperity of this city [Jerusalem] and of this land necessitates that no Jew should ever live there.” [PA TV (Fatah), Dec. 14, 2004]
Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Maadi: "All weapons must be aimed at the Jews, Allah’s enemies, the cursed nation in the Koran, whom Allah describes as monkeys and pigs: [The] Koran says clearly that the worst enemies of the Moslem Nation are the Jews, may Allah fight them...” [PA TV (Fatah), Aug. 3, 2001]
Dr. Ahmad Abu Halabiyah, Sharia (Islamic Law) Rulings Council, Rector of Advanced Studies, Islamic University: “The Jews are the Jews. Whether Labor or Likud the Jews are Jews. They do not have any moderates or any advocates of peace. They are all liars. They must be butchered and must be killed... The Jews are like a spring as long as you step on it with your foot it doesn’t move. But if you lift your foot from the spring, it hurts you and punishes you: “It is forbidden to have mercy in your hearts for the Jews in any place and in any land. Make war on them any place that you find yourself. Any place that you meet them, kill them.” [PA TV (Fatah), Oct. 13, 2000]
Soon after this call to kill Jews, a teenager on PA TV expressed this desire to kill all Jews: “Kill them all... we won’t leave a single Jew here.” [Young Girl, PA TV (Fatah), Oct. 22, 2000]

Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Maadi: “All the weapons must be aimed at the Jews, Allah’s enemies, the cursed nation in the Koran, whom Allah describes as monkeys and pigs, worshippers of the calf and idol worshippers: Nothing will deter them except the color of blood in their filthy nation : unless we blow ourselves up, willingly and as our duty, in their midst: We will blow them up in Hadera, we will blow them up in Tel-Aviv and in Netanya so that Allah will make us masters over this riff-raff. We will fight against them and rule over them until the Jew will hide behind the tree and rock and the tree and rock will say: ‘Muslim! Servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, kill him.’” [PA TV (Fatah), Aug. 3, 2001]
This official PA line that God demands the killing of Jews was expressed in graphic form on the Hamas website promising entry to Heaven to those who follow God’s command. The words read: “We shall knock on heaven’s doors with the skulls of Jews.” Dr. Mahmoud Mustafa Najem: “Servants of Allah, be you the ones by whom Allah tortures the Jews with harsh torment.” [PA TV (Fatah), Nov. 1, 2002]
Muhammad Abd Al Hadi La’afi, Responsible for Religious Teaching and Instruction in the Office of the Waqf: “The battle with the Jews will surely come: The decisive Muslim victory is coming without a doubt, and the prophet spoke about in more than one Hadith, and the Day of Resurrection will not come without the victory of the believers [the Muslims] over the descendants of the monkeys and pigs [the Jews] and with their annihilation.” [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida (Fatah), May 18, 2001]
It doesn't matter whether it is Hamas or Fatah, the aim is the same destroy Israel utterly, ensure there is no Jewish state in the Middle East and kill as many Jews as possible. Yet these are the people Israel are told to negotiate with as 'partners in peace'?

The BBC just won't report these regular statements from Hamas or Fatah that call for death for all Jews etc. but will report when one Israeli extremist makes threats against Arabs. I have complained about this to the BBC but their Middle East supremo, Tarik Kafala, seems uninterested in taking my complaints seriously.
