"an erosion of the sentence the judge had imposed"

I learn that the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Phillips, has criticised the early release of prisoners under the scheme to reduce prison overcrowding. Lord Phillips, said it was "an erosion of the sentence the judge had imposed" and called for a clear sentencing structure. The Ministry of Justice said data suggested "the scheme is working well".

In related news, a National Statistical Office spokesman confirmed that white was white and black was black. A Government spokesman assured the public that white was black, black was white and that "all will be well in the garden".
