The war on motorists continues

The war on the motorist will ratchet up a gear or two soon with the news of the upcoming introduction of average speed cameras at
"every entry and exit point to any given estate or suburb, to ensure that all drivers taking all routes are properly monitored and cannot evade the cameras' reach."

Just read that quote from the Telegraph again and think about it. Cameras at every entry and exit point for a suburb, how many cameras will that require? A hundred per London suburb, two hundred? What about the phrase "properly monitored", is that Orwellian enough for you?

This is not about road safety, this is about raising revenue via "transgression taxes" and any Londoner will wince at the next part of the Telegraph report:
"The cameras are linked using wireless technology and do not use film, but instead store digital images. They read number plates automatically and transmit data instantly to penalty-processing centres like the ones used to police the London congestion charge."

What percentage of the "fines" will go to the penalty-processing centre operator?

And the "kicker" clause:
"Several London boroughs want to be among the first to use the cameras to enforce the limit on 20mph roads."

The bean eating, cycle riding fraternity introduced 20mph zones around schools but they are spreading, before long the normal speed limit in built-up areas will be 20mph, enforced by average speed cameras and the full majesty of the law.

Meanwhile home-owners will be prosecuted if they photograph people breaking into property for infringing the burglars "human rights" and every excuse will be found to prevent persistent muggers from going to prison or facing any meaningful penalty for their actions.

This country has been destroyed by Labour and its fellow-travellers in the health and safety police, "human rights" defenders and the like.

I want my country back.
