Windows 7

I see that Microsoft have stopped pretending that Windows 7 will be released in 2010 and that it will be released to manufacturing in August and hit the retailers in October. The big question is will my old XP running laptop survive long enough that I can jump straight to a new Windows 7 laptop and so miss out entirely on Vista?
