Coincidence or the mark of the Devil?

Archbishop Cranmer reports that "In a delightful ‘coincidence’ which will please theological numerologists, the House of Commons’ order paper listing motions for debate has allocated 666 to a motion calling for the disestablishment of the Church of England.

Bob Russell, Liberal Democrat MP for Colchester, one of the signatories, said: "It is is incredible that a motion like this should have, by chance, acquired this significant number. This number is supposed to be the mark of the Devil. It looks as though God or the Devil have been moving in mysterious ways. What is even stranger is that this motion was tabled last night when MPs were debating blasphemy.""

I would imagine that the tabling of this Early Day Motion was timed so as to obtain the number 666; that would appeal to many people's sense of humour. Whether this is a matter for levity is a completely different matter.
