A Lib Dem vote is a wasted vote

A Lib Dem vote is a wasted vote is what many people used to say about voting for the Liberal Democrats. However if Comment is Free are to be believed, it is a vote by Lib Dem Brian Paddick that was the wasted vote. Dave Hill reports that:

"One small mystery has been solved. Brian Paddick has apparently revealed to a radio station that his second preference vote for mayor was cast, not for Sian Berry as I had expected, but for Lindsey German, the Left List candidate. Now there's a turn-up. I'm still getting my head round that one."

Obviously Brian Paddick didn't understand how the second preference system works: that a second vote for anyone other than Livingslime or Boris was a wasted vote and that a second preference vote for one of those two was worth the same as a first preference vote when your first choice was eliminated. Maybe Mr Paddick should have read this or this or this which would have explained it to him. Never mind, no harm done.
