That's not quite what he said is it BBC?

The BBC report Mervyn King's latest pronouncements under the heading "UK recovery 'only just starting'". Oddly they then report Mervyn King's words thus "The UK economy has "only just started" along its road to economic recovery, according to Bank of England governor Mervyn King."

To me "only just started" on the road to economic recovery does not mean the same as the UK economy "only just starting".

Are the BBC guilty of wishful thinking and talking up the UK economy to the benefit of the Labour government?

On a similar subject I note that the BBC are still 'looking on the bright side' as they report that "The UK jobless total rose to 2.46 million in the three months to September, but the increase was the smallest since May 2008. " under the headline "Rise in UK jobless slowing". I don't seem to remember such positive spin being applied to reports of rising UK unemployment under a Conservative government; why?

It's interesting to look at the ONS report on unemployment directly rather than other people's reporting of it. One of the things that stands out is the fact that in the period, ful time employment fell by 80,000 and part time employment rose by 86,000. 997,000 people were woring part time because they couldn't find a full time job!
