Burning the Koran

I held back from commenting on the American pastor and his threats to burn the Koran as I knew what sort of comments I would get. However something came to mind today, so here goes....

On the one hand, it's a book and people regularly deface Bibles in the name of 'art' or 'protest' and nobody screams, burns flags or threatens death and destruction. On the other hand, why do it, what's the point? We know Islam is often an intolerant religion so why provoke Islamists?

Then I read this in Haaretz and I wondered where the protests in the west were... :
'The Hezbollah website, the Islamic Resistance Forum, described Gemayel as an Israeli spy and called for his "crucifixion on a pole in the Pride and Dignity Square in Beirut".'
Oh and some context if your knowledge of Lebanese politics is not all that it should be
'Sami Gemayel is the son of former Lebanese President Amin Gemayel. His older brother, Pierre, was a member of parliament and government minister before his assassination on November 21, 2006. Gemayel is also the nephew of assassinated former president-elect Bachir Gemayel.'
