Pakistan, terorism and the BBC

The BBC have been attacking David Cameron for daring to point out that elements connected with Pakistan's government have been involved in sponsoring terrorism. Part of the reason for the attack is the BBC's endless war on Conservative politicians but part is also due to the BBC's slavish adherence to the mantras 'Islam good, other religions bad' and 'Pakistan good, India bad' - I am sure you can see the connection between these two mantras.

The trouble with the BBC's indignation and reporting of the 'fury' at David Cameron's comments is that Pakistan and terrorism are as intertwined as the BBC and the Labour party. Here are just some examples, the first is one the BBC should remember as it comes from a 2006 Newsnight programme (my comments in italics):

'Key quotes from a leaked Ministry of Defence think-tank paper which alleges that Pakistan's intelligence service, the ISI, has indirectly helped the Taleban and al-Qaeda and should be dismantled. The research paper was written by a senior officer at the MoD-run Defence Academy. The Ministry of Defence have responded that the views contained in it do not reflect the views of the MOD or the government. (not that the views are not correct just that they do not reflect MOD or government opinion)

...

"The Army's dual role in combating terrorism and at the same time promoting the MMA and so indirectly supporting the Taliban (through the ISI) is coming under closer and closer international scrutiny.

Pakistan is not currently stable but on the edge of chaos.

[The West has] turned a blind eye towards existing instability and the indirect protection of Al Qaeda and promotion of terrorism.

Indirectly Pakistan (through the ISI) has been supporting terrorism and extremism - whether in London on 7/7 or in Afghanistan or Iraq. The deaths of Britons on or under the streets of London is less important to the BBC than protecting the good name of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan?

The US/UK cannot begin to turn the tide until they identify the real enemies from attacking ideas tactically - and seek to put in place a more just vision. This will require Pakistan to move away from Army rule and for the ISI to be dismantled and more significantly something to be put in its place."'That's the same ISI who the BBC were shocked to learn had cancelled a visit to London.

There is more evidence of Pakistan's involvement with terrorism: In a May 2009 interview with CBS' 60 Minutes, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said "to a certain extent, they play both sides." Gates and others suggest the ISI maintains links with groups like the Afghan Taliban as a "strategic hedge" to help Islamabad gain influence in Kabul once U.S. troops exit the region.


And what if the recent Wikileaks, the BBC have concentrated on the leaks that pertain to UK and US troops but the leaks also described the ISI's links to militant groups fighting U.S. and international forces in Afghanistan.

The BBC's attacks on David Cameron are disingenuous at best and symptomatic of what should be a news reporting organisation having become a propaganda vehicle.

Asghar Khan: India An Imagined Enemy - YouTube

Pakistani General admits that Pakistan started every war with India and that the threat to Pakistan of. India is imaginary.

'Asghar Khan - former Chief of the Pakistan Air Force, Chairman of the Tehrik-e-Istaqlaal political party, and a man renowned for his integrity and clarity - argues against the official anti-India ideology of Pakistan.

He explains how: (a) India does not constitute a national threat and has no interest in swallowing Pakistan; (b) all wars between the two countries were started by Pakistan; (c) the Maharaja of Kashmir may not have acceded to India had Pakistan negotiated with him seriously; (d) the 1971 war was sheer lunacy in military terms on account of the long lines of communication; (e) unlike India, Pakistan does not need nuclear weapons; (f) nuclear program represents a grave danger to the national security of Pakistan; and (g) the country is paying a heavy economic price for its atomic program. This interview was recorded in 2009 by Dawn.'

Don't expect any reporting of this on BBC who try to find fault with India as much as possible whilst protecting Pakistan from criticism. The BBC's Asian services full of people of Pakistani descent. Also Pakistan is Islamic state and therefore beyond criticism at pro Islamic BBC.

BBC News pro-Pakistani bias again

There's a peculiar sentence in a BBC report on the upcoming talks between India and Pakistan.

'Delhi has also blamed Pakistan-based militants for the deadly attacks in Mumbai in 2008, urging Islamabad to punish the perpetrators.'

Two points, first Delhi has not blamed Pakistan-based militants, they have blamed Pakistan-based terrorists for the Mumbai attacks. Second the BBC's report makes it sound as though there was doubt as to whether the terrorists were from Pakistan, is that the case, I thought it had been determined beyond doubt that Lashkar-e-Taibar was responsible, indeed the only terrorist captured alive admitted this.

In fact there is much evidence linking the attack to Pakistan's ISI (Pakistan's premier intelligence agency) whose involvement with Islamist terrorist groups including Al Qaeda is well documented.

The trouble with the BBC is that they are not an impartial news reporting organisation. In the Indian subcontinent, as elsewhere in the world, the BBC take sides in disputes. In this instance the BBC is firmly pro-Pakistan and anti-India. This stance can be explained first by the BBC's love of anything Islamic and second by the BBC's large number of staff who are of Pakistani-heritage.

Olympic News but not on the BBC

The Sun reports that:

'PAKISTAN’S president yesterday ordered the arrest of criminals behind an Olympics visa racket exposed by The Sun.
A dozen passport officials have been suspended.
An aide said Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and President Asif Ali Zardari were appalled after we exposed corrupt officials offering potential terrorists the chance to sneak into Britain with the Pakistan Olympic squad.
Rehman Malik added: “The visa scandal is shocking.
“President Zardari and Prime Minister Ashraf have asked me to arrest those responsible for defaming Pakistan. Those responsible will be punished accordingly.”
Embarrassed Pakistan officials also rang Downing Street yesterday to confirm they are doing all they can to find the gang ringleaders.
A dozen Pakistan passport officials were suspended yesterday and others were taken into custody.
Those suspended include the general manager of the Lahore passport office which arranged for an undercover Sun investigator to obtain bogus travel documents for £600.
And senior politician Abid Chodhary, who offered our man a UK visa plus a letter confirming he was part of Pakistan’s Olympic entourage for £7,000, has been banned from leaving the country.
The Dream Land travel agency in Lahore, whose staff put The Sun in touch with corrupt officials, was closed yesterday. Arrests are expected soon.
Mr Malik said he had personally contacted the British authorities to assure them no terrorists would be allowed to slip into London 2012.
He added: “We love the Olympics and will never allow anyone to sabotage them.” Pakistan’s ISI intelligence service confirmed the racket could have been used by potential terrorists.
A spokesman said: “The ISI had reports earlier that the Olympics could be used to send terrorists into UK and Europe but we had made a fool-proof plan to stop this.
“There has been an activity of the militants for the last few months and we have intercepted calls in which militants are discussing Olympics as a tool to get into UK. We have taken people into custody and are interrogating them. The men can give us a clue if they are connected with militant outfits or were just trying to make it to the UK.”
David Cameron said he had every faith in London 2012’s security.
His spokesman said: “We are confident that we have the checks in place and the arrangements in place to deal with these issues.” Downing Street said British agents are in Pakistan working with authorities there.
The suspended staff are from the NADRA passport centres in Lahore and Islamabad.
Olympics Minister Hugh Robertson said: “We’re grateful to The Sun.”'

 On the BBC? Shhh not a word.

Real ethnic cleansing

'Last Sunday, September 22, in Peshawar, Pakistan, Islamic suicide bombers entered the All Saints Church compound right after Sunday mass and blew themselves up in the midst of some 550 congregants, killing, according to the latest count, nearly 90 worshippers, including many Sunday school children, women, and choir members, and injuring at least another 120.

The now destroyed Protestant church was built in Peshawar some 130 years ago. The Taliban claimed the attacks.

According to Margrette, a parishioner who survived (though her sister's status was unknown), "I heard two explosions. People started to run. Human remains were strewn all over the church."

Armed attacks on churches are hardly uncommon in Pakistan, even though Christians are less than 2 percent of the population, while Muslims are 97 percent. In 2001, Islamic gunmen stormed St. Dominic's Protestant Church, opening fire on the congregants and killing at least 16 worshippers; most women and children. Last Christmas, "when Christian worshipers were coming out of different Churches after performing Christmas prayers, more than one hundred Muslim extremists equipped with automatic rifles, pistols and sticks attacked the Christian women, children and men."
The attack came in response to fatwas condemning Christmas celebrations.

As for Muslim mob violence (as opposed to preplanned terrorist strikes) this is a common fixture that regularly flares up against Pakistan's Christians and other minorities, most often in the context of "blasphemy," that is, offending Islam or its prophet. A few months ago, in March, because one Christian was accused of blasphemy, some 3,000 Muslims attacked the Christian Joseph Colony of Lahore, burning two churches  and 160 Christian homes.

According to one Christian eyewitness, "The police was doing what it does best -- nothing! Their bias towards Christians is quite evident, because when the Muslims were raiding our church and property, they just watched, but when we confronted them, they started hitting us with batons and used live ammunition to deter us." '

What Islamists are doing to the tiny Christian population in Pakistan is disgusting. But what's worse is the way that politicians and the media in the West is minimising coverage of the story. It is truly vile that the BBC obsess over the way Israel treats Palestinians and over a supposed rape problem in India whilst giving Pakistan a pretty easy ride.

Interestingly Israel is the only Jewish State in the world, albeit one with a 25% non Jewish population and India is a predominantly Hindu country, albeit one with a 20% non Hindu population. In both countries by far the largest second religion is Islam. Meanwhile in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is 97% Muslim.

How the BBC can attack the supposed mistreatment of religious minorities in Israel and India whilst ignoring the ethnic cleansing of non Muslims that has happened and continues in Pakistan would be a mystery were it not for the massive number of people of Pakistani-heritage working at the BBC.

American election conspiracy theory - please add as much salt as you feel necessary (update)

Philip J. Berg is claiming victory in his court case against Barack Obama and the DNC by virtue of their

"failure to timely respond to Requests for Admissions". he thus claims that: "Obama is “NOT QUALIFIED” to be President and therefore Obama must immediately withdraw his candidacy for President and the DNC shall substitute a qualified candidate.... I filed Requests for Admissions on September 15, 2008 with a response by way of answer or objection that had to be served within thirty [30] days. No response to the Requests for Admissions was served by way of response or objection. Thus, all of the Admissions directed to Obama and the DNC are deemed “ADMITTED.” Therefore, Obama must immediately withdraw his candidacy for President."

I do love a good conspiracy theory and this is a good one... Is salt required or is there more than a kernel of truth to these claims?

A Commonwealth Games story that the BBC choose not to remind us of

Amidst the BBC's horrified coverage of India's Commonwealth Games problems, have you noticed any space being given to a potentially more serious threat:

'We warn the international community not to send their people to the 2010 Hockey World Cup, IPL (Indian Premier League Cricket Tournament) and Commonwealth Games. Nor should their people visit India – if they do, they will be responsible for the consequences.

We, the mujahideen of 313 Brigade, vow to continue attacks all across India until the Indian Army leaves Kashmir and gives the Kashmiris their right of self-determination. We assure the Muslims of the subcontinent that we will never forget the massacre of the Muslims in Gujarat and the demolition of Babri Mosque. Have the BBC forgotten what Pakistani originated, and maybe influenced & supported, terrorists wrought in Mumbai just under two years ago?

In 2008 Islamic terrorists killed at least 173 people and wounded at least another 308. The targets then included the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the Oberoi Trident, the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, the Orthodox Jewish-owned Nariman House, and Cama Hospital (a women and children's hospital). The only attacker who was captured alive, Ajmal Kasab, disclosed that the attackers were members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, the Pakistan-based terrorist organization. The Indian Government said that the attackers came from Pakistan, and their controllers were in Pakistan. These claims were initailly pooh poohed by Pakistan and its friends in the West, including some interviewed by the BBC. So these 'people' must have been distraught when after more than a month of denying the nationality of the attackers, Pakistan's Information Minister Sherry Rehman officially accepted Ajmal Kasab's nationality as Pakistani. A month later Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik, in a TV news briefing, confirmed that parts of the attack had been planned in Pakistan and said that six people, including the alleged mastermind, were being held in connection with the attacks.

So should Commonwealth athletes be more worrid by leaky rooms or Pakistani terrorists? And will the BBC ever cover such a threat?

The break-up of Pakistan

It would seem that Pakistan is fragmenting before our eyes. News reaches me that (my emphasis):

"On May 11, 2008, the secular government in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province (NWFP) finalized a deal with the Taliban groups for the implementation of shari'a in the province's seven districts. The Pashtun nationalist government in the NWFP, which came to power last month, had vowed to talk to the Taliban in order to establish peace in the region. The talks were held between the government, Pakistani Taliban and the outlawed Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e -Muhammadi (Movement for the Enforcement of Islamic Shari'a).

The Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi, led by Maulana Sufi Muhammad, the Islamist leader recently released from prison under a deal with the government, is the dominant Taliban group in the NWFP. It is also a constituent of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, which is led by Baitullah Mehsud.....


Under the deal between the NWFP government and the Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi, which is controlled by Sufi Muhammad's son-in-law Maulana Fazlullah, a shari'a system of administration and justice will be implemented in seven districts. This will effectively create the world's first mini-shari'a state within Pakistan, with the provincial government practically ceding control to the Taliban in roughly 45% of the province....


According to the Roznama Khabrain report, "the [ulema of the] department of Amr Bil Maroof will train [sic] people in Islam, Islamic teachings, Islamic norms and laws." There will be total ban on singing and dancing, and the ulema, who will not be paid a salary, will be based in the local police stations of the seven districts and offer their services as part of their work for Islam.

Courts Will Deliver Islam-Compliant Punishments

The paper stated that shari'a courts will be created in the seven districts, and that these courts will have the power to deliver Islam-compliant verdicts such as amputating the hands of individuals convicted of theft, administering 80 lashes or stoning for convicted rapists, or enforcing qisas - a principle that permits "like punishment" for a crime...."

So having ejected the Taliban from Afghanistan the West now have to see the Taliban in power and inplementing repressive sharia law in part of our alleged ally Pakistan. I wonder if this story will get any coverage in the UK or does it not fit the chosen "narative".

'Pakistan and India as a Socio-Religious Experiment'

India and Pakistan have evolved very differently since partition in 1947. Dr. Moorthy Muthuswamy has some theories as to why this might be the case...

'Why have Pakistan and India, created from the landmass called British India, evolved so differently, despite sharing so much - including language, culture, food habits, and more?
Could some of the prominent features of Islam be responsible for Pakistan becoming a fountainhead of terror and a nation subsisting on foreign assistance?'

From 4:42 in the first video is most interesting; as it concerns something I have said before, that Pakistan has become an Islamic state where religious minorities are not well treated, whilst India has become a multi-ethic state.

The second video (which will auto-start when the first part finishes) includes a comparison of ethnic Indians and ethnic Pakistanis in the UK.

I know Dr. Moorthy Muthuswamy has a slow delivery but do try and persevere, he brings an interesting perspective to the puzzle of how Pakistan and India have evolved so differently; he blames Sharia.

Afghan refugees in Pakistan forced to leave the country in response to get-tough measures

The LA Times reports:

'Pakistan has announced that the 1.5 million registered Afghan refugees in the country must leave by Dec. 31 as part of get-tough measures to combat terrorism, fueling fresh fear and uncertainty among families who have spent almost their entire lives in their adopted country.

An estimated 1 million other Afghan refugees are in Pakistan without papers and facing expulsion. Provincial police say that 8,000 Afghans in the country illegally have been arrested in the last three months.

In practice, Afghans cannot gain citizenship in Pakistan; they are only given Proof of Registration cards. Pakistan says those cards will expire at the end of the year.'

Something that you won't hear be reported by the institutionally pro-Pakistan and Islam BBC.

Nobody at the BBC seems to see the parallels between what happened in India and Pakistan in 1947 and what should have happened in Israel in 1948. In 1922 Jordan was created as yet another home for Arabs and on 70% of the land previously promised to Israel. So if at almost the same time as in India, rather than try and create yet another Arab country, the international community had moved those Muslim Arabs, who didn't want to live in a predominantly Jewish state, to the state that had been setup for them 25 years previously, how much future bloodshed would have been avoided? 

In India and Pakistan millions of people moved many hundreds of miles, yet no refugee camps existed by the late 1950s. Yet because Muslim Arab nations use the Palestinians as a weapon against the existence of a majority Jewish state on 'Muslim land', Palestinians still live to this day in refugee camps in Jordan and The Lebanon.

By way of contrast, the 858,000 Jews who had to flee Muslim countries across the Middle East and North Africa 1948-1950  were integrated into Israeli society very quickly. There were more Jewish refugees than Palestinian but the Jewish ones became Israeli citizens whilst the Palestinians were refused citizenship of Jordan the country created for them 25 years previously.

It's strange how the BBC never report this history, I suppose it doesn't fit their anti Israel narrative.

What's the factor not being reported by the BBC? You can probably guess by now!

The BBC report that ''Action needed' on forced marriage says abused teenager'

The report is a long one by Tulip Mazumdar, Newsbeat presenter in Pakistan, and mostly concerns one 15-year-old victim who

'says she was tricked into going to Pakistan by her dad, but she managed to escape days before her wedding to a man twice her age.'

The report includes the information that:

'More than half of the cases dealt with last year by the government's forced marriage unit were related to Pakistan.'

The article also includes this line:

'The victim went to a predominantly Asian school but says she was never made aware of any help available to people like her.'

So is the problem an Asian problem or does it relate mainly to one group of Asians? I don't believe that forced marriage is an issue amongst the Japanese, Thai or Chinese communities but that is not what 'Asian' means to the BBC. Forced marriage is not a common problem amongst Britain's Hindu or Sikh communities although it does occur. So are we really looking at one community for the vast majority of cases? It seems likely as 'More than half of the cases... were related to (the Islamic Republic of) Pakistan (population 97% Muslim). The BBC's mentioning just of Pakistan might make people assume that the rest of the forced marriages were related to Indians (80% Hindu, 13% Muslim), however I wonder if Bangladesh (82% Muslim) might account for a larger number of cases than India.

Tulip Mazumdar like many at the BBC seem incapable of mentioning Islam in an unflattering light let alone criticising Islam; why?

Flooding, aid and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

The Telegraph report that:

'Pakistan relief organisations 'discriminating against Christian flood victims'

Relief organisations in Pakistan are discriminating against Christians when they distribute flood aid, the Vatican said on Friday, as one million more people were displaced by fresh floods.

Christians and members of other minority religions are being treated as second-class citizens, said Father Mario Rodrigues, the Lahore-based director of Catholic Mission.

"They often receive little assistance or are excluded altogether," he told Fides, the Vatican's news agency.

Aid is being delivered by "government officials sympathetic to Islamic fundamentalism or by Muslim relief organisations", Fides claimed in its report, citing other unnamed aid workers.

About 200,000 Christians in Punjab province and about 600,000 Christians and Hindus in Sindh province have been affected by weeks of monsoon rain.'

An Islamic country (or its representatives) discriminating against Kuffars; how surprising. Of course the BBC have not reported this story presumably fearing that it might further reduce the propensity for British Christians to send aid to one of their favourite Islamic states.

Do note that Pakistan is formally known as the Islamic State of Pakistan but it is Israel that the BBC love to attack for being an 'apartheid state'.

The BBC and India & Pakistan

Is it my imagination or are the BBC enjoying India's Commonwealth Games travails just a little too much? The BBC's love for Pakistan, as an Islamic state, has long meant that the BBC has taken Pakistan's side against India; you can see this over Kashmir and even in the way the BBC reported on the Pakistani inspired terrorist attacks on Mumbai.

Imagine how much more sympathetic the BBC would have been if it was Pakistan who were hosting the Commonwealth Games rather than India and if they were experiencing similar problems. Not that that would happen as who would allocate any major games to a near failed state like Pakistan?

Pakistan are trying to create a diversion

The Times of India reports that:

'Violating the ceasefire again, Pakistani troops resorted to small arms firing on Indian forward posts along the Line of Control in Poonch district, leaving a jawan injured.

"There was firing from heavy weapons and RPG attacks on forward posts along the LoC in Krishnagati sector of Poonch district around 2200 hours last night," a senior Army officer said on Thursday.

The cross border firing continued for a brief period, he said, adding an Army jawan was injured in the firing and hospitalised.

Army troops guarding the LoC retaliated, he said. The firing was aimed at NPP and Shahpur forward posts along the LoC for pushing in militants into Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).

This is the second ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops this year.

Earlier on January 2, Pakistan troops had violated the ceasefire by firing on Indian posts in Poonch sector.'

Pakistan likes to ramp up the tension in Kashmir from time to time, it draws attention away from their lack of progress or real interest re Waziristan. When will the West realise that Pakistan is not our loyal ally but partly an ally of the Taliban and Al Quaeda?

India has obtained evidence that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) directorate played a more significant role in the planning and execution of the November 2008 Mumbai attack than had previously been thought, according to Indian Home Secretary G. K. Pillai, Indian Express reported July 14. Pillai said information gathered from interrogations of David Headley, a U.S. citizen accused of helping plan the attack, indicated the ISI had planned the attack with Lashkar-e-Taiba militant Hafiz Saeed “from beginning to end.” He added that the ISI was not a peripheral player, but was controlling and coordinating the attack, and that Saeed also knew everything about the attack. '

Again, I wonder if the BBC are even interested in such information or does it go against their world view?

Birmingham's first Islamic school 'spent £1m of public money on school in Pakistan' per Education News in The Independent

'Council officials in Birmingham are investigating claims that a trust running the city's first-ever Islamic school spent £1 million of public money funding a new school in Pakistan.

The allegations concern the Al-Hijrah school, a voluntary-aided state funded school for four to 18-year-olds which was set up in 1999 and run by a trust.

The school was at the centre of controversy earlier this year when it was placed in special measures after an inspection by education standards watchdog Ofsted declared it to be "inadequate".

An interim board was appointed by Birmingham City Council to run the school after the entire governing body was sacked after it was revealed its budget was £900,000 in the red.  It was initially refused entry to the school by the previous regime running it but has now taken over.

Now it is understood the council is investigating claims that the Trust used public money to help fund a new £1 million boys' only boarding school in the city of Ziarat in Pakistan at a time when the school in Birmingham was in dire need of improvement.

According to the minutes of its meeting in September, it discovered: 14 members of staff were without contracts, seven were still working there even though their contracts had expired and 29 had not had Criminal Record Bureau checks.

"There are a number of teachers with no teacher reference number but receiving qualified teacher salary," they add.'

Other militant Islamist groups in Pakistan, such as the newly formed Pakistani Taliban, have also shown an interest in developing weapons with a nuclear capability, according to Western security officials.

Security chiefs fear the mounting political instability in Pakistan will make it easier for militant Islamist groups to develop a primitive nuclear device.

Pakistan is the world's only Muslim country with a nuclear weapons arsenal, which was developed during the 1990s by the rogue Pakistani nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadir (AQ) Khan.

Dr Khan was placed under house arrest after he was accused of selling the blueprint for Pakistan's atom bomb to rogue states such as Libya, North Korea and Iran. But the restrictions on Dr Khan's detention have been eased since President Pervez Musharraf was forced from power."

Religious tolerance in Pakistan and elsewhere in the Islamic world

Nick Cohen in The Guardian has written an excellent piece entitled 'The Pakistan killings are not about blasphemy

Western liberals are happy to denounce white extremists, while covering up militant Islam with a blanket of political correctness'

Do go and read the whole piece, as is so often the case with Nick 'not Jewish despite the surname' Cohen he makes a lot of sense and is not scared of breaking the left-wing taboo of not criticising Islam. Here's how Nick Cohen ends his piece:

'The difference between Islamism and the rest is that liberals are happy to denounce white extremists, while covering up militant Islam with the wet blanket of political correctness. They do not confine themselves to saying that, of course, society must protect people from being murdered for their religion, as Slobodan Milosevic murdered the Bosnian Muslims, and punish employers who refuse jobs to members of creeds they dislike, as Protestant employers in Northern Ireland once refused to hire Catholics. They maintain it is illicit to criticise religious ideas. Thus, along with the admittedly faint fear of violence, western writers who want to provide arguments against religious misogyny, homophobia, racism and censorship must also live with the fear that their contemporaries will accuse them of orientalism or Islamophobia.

The world may pay a price for the monumental blunder of treating religious ideologies – which are beliefs that men and women ought to be free to accept or reject – as if they were ethnicities, which no man or woman can change. Not the smallest reason why the Arab revolution is such an optimistic event is that al-Qaida and the Muslim Brotherhood have been left as gawping bystanders. Their isolation cannot last. Asking Pakistanis to focus on the blasphemy law is asking a rape victim to please mind not littering the street or making a noise while she's been done over. For obvious reasons, most won't go near the subject especially when religion has been dragged (intentionally, in my view) into this whole 'war on terror'.

Pakistan is being raped by the Americans and also by the religious right. But the religious right has been fostered and fed by American money, and it also a reaction to the continual violation of Pakistan's sovereignty and the murder of her citizens.

If the West so casually ignores these mass killings, why expect Pakistanis to focus on a few victims of the blasphemy law?'

Do you lie awake at night worrying about who has control of Pakistan's nuclear weapons?

I would imagine the answer is no... But maybe you should.

Back in November last year Eight air force officials died and 40 were wounded in a terrorist attack on a military bus heading for the Sargodha Air Force Base in Pakistan's Punjab. The Sargodha Air Force Base is the "Headquarters of the Pakistan Air Force's Central Air Command and home base for nuclear-capable F-16 combat aircraft, and Hatf-III/Ghaznavi/M-11 ballistic missiles...Some analysts believe that components or partially assembled air-deliverable nuclear devices might be stored at an ammunition depot at the Sargodha air base. Pakistan's nuclear-capable, short-range, solid-fueled Hatf III/Ghaznavi/M-11 (total number estimated at 34-80) ballistic missiles are also believed to be stored at facilities near the Central Ammunition Depot on Kirana Hills at Sargodha. The evidence captured on US satellite imagery includes missile crates; storage sheds for transporter-erector launch vehicles; missile maintenance facilities; and housing for missile crews. The Pakistani military has also been sighted conducting simulated launches with assistance from visiting Chinese experts. Indian intelligence sources believe that during a crisis or war, the missiles would be dispersed and re-deployed at Gujranwala, Okara, Multan, Jhang, and Dera Nawab Shah, where defense terminals have been constructed. "
