I see in The Telegraph that "Patricia Hewitt, the former Health Secretary, is on course to become Britain's first woman Commissioner in Brussels after winning Cabinet backing to succeed Peter Mandelson. The 60-year-old is a strong pro-European and is understood to have the support of both Gordon Brown and Harriet Harman, the Deputy Prime Minister, for the £200,000 a year post in the EU executive."
So Patricia "resigned before she could be sacked" Hewitt could succeed Peter "sacked twice" Mandleson, you have to admire the tenacity and lack of shame of Labour politicians.
By the way, what is the French for "your voice really grates"?
