Speaker Michael Martin

The person appointed to head the enquiry into reorganising MPs expenses is the Speaker of the House of Commons, Michael Martin. The stories about his and his wife's misuse of public money are easily locatable on the web. Today though I read in the Sunday Mirror that they claim that "House of Commons Speaker Michael Martin sent SEVEN relatives on business-class trips from Glasgow to London in a clear breach of MPs' guidelines. He got the free tickets using Air Miles clocked up flying business-class paid for by the taxpayer with his wife Mary, 63, between Westminster and their Scottish home. But rather than use the Air Miles generated to reduce his annual £10,000 flights bill - as MPs are advised to do by the House of Commons Estimates Committee which he is in charge of - Mr Martin, 67, used his Air Miles to provide treats for his son, daughter and grandchildren...Between them the Martins have amassed more than ONE MILLION Air Miles - enough for them to fly London-Scotland return every week for a year at no cost to the public, except air tax. But they have chosen not to, instead continuing to travel on £440 full-price business returns paid for by taxpayers...collecting even more Air Miles."

Seems like the ideal man to look into MPs dodgy expenses, he has first hand knowledge...

Appalling Labour sleaze yet again... Is there no end to it... Martin should be prosecuted... If any other civil servant had done this, (and abused MP's expenses system) they would be sacked and charged wit fraud..
