EU passport

A week ago I blogged about the EU setting up its own embassies so as to eventually replace those of the EU's constituent countries. Now I learn that the all new passports issued from 1 July 2009 will carry the text of Article 20 of the EU's founding treaty. Prior to that date, the European Commission has told EU governments to produce stickers quoting the article and to encourage as many people as possible to put them on their passports.

Yet the Labour government will still insist that the EU will not become a country in its own right. So the EU will have a government, tax raising powers, a standardised pasport, a police force, an army and a standardised judicial system but won't be a country? If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck.
