Have the Chinese learnt from the masters?

I learn today that
"British scientists monitoring air quality in Beijing have been ordered to close down their website after their readings clashed with official statistics showing the city was meeting its pollution targets."
Can you think of another world government who might be accused of fiddling official statistics to their advantage?

The ever mealy-mouthed IOC responded to this suppression of the truth thus:
"A spokesman for the International Olympic Committee cited Arne Ljungqvist, an IOC official, as having said it had no reason to doubt statistics from the Beijing city environmental protection bureau."

Read the rest of the Telegraph article and ask yourself which set of figures you think might be more believable.
