"Veteran US senator Ted Kennedy, 77, is to be awarded an honorary knighthood.
The Queen has agreed the honour for the brother of former US president John F Kennedy for services to the US-UK relationship and to Northern Ireland. "
The BBC article sheds some more light on the story with this extract:
"Gordon Brown is to formally announce the award during his address to both houses of Congress on Wednesday. "
So the award is so as to enable Gordon Brown to offer a present to the Democrats, how nice.
The BBC article claims that:
"Apart from his famous family connections, he is probably best known in the UK for his work on the Northern Ireland peace process. "
Sorry BBC but I am sure many of us in the UK have heard of Chappaquiddick and the earlier misdemeanours of Teddy Kennedy. If you are not quite so up to speed on Senator Edward Kennedy's troubled past then I recommend a trip to NNDB it will be illuminating - maybe the BBC could learn something as well.
Once again the BBC's love-in with certain leftist figures allows all misdemeanours to be ignored in a way that would not be true for a conservative politician.

I cannot think of a man less deserving to be given an honorary knighthood! I feel so much grief for those so far more deserving to have to share their title with such a man who in 1969 was not brave enough to do the right thing!
I was also amazed at this. Of all the people in the United States of America they give it to this man. When they started "has decided to give an honorary knighthood.." I fully expected them say George Bush or Colin Powell or even better Clint Eastwood!!!
Sky News said it was for furthering the links between American and the UK. Furthering the links? What a load of twoddle!
