Cutting the deficit

Why does nobody point out to Gordon 'Brownie' Brown that cutting the deficit in half means that the National Debt is still increasing by over £100 billion a year for three of the next four years and by £100 billion in year four. By not pointing this out, interviewers are allowing Gordon Brown to persuade people that total debt is being reduced not the annual deficit - there is a difference and that difference needs explaining.
