The BBC's news reports are often interesting in so far as they add little notes to end of the news report. No report on happenings in Israel is complete without a note that Israel's settlements are contrary to international law. So I was intrigued to read this BBC article about four people including a Muslim cleric who have been arrested in Bangladesh in connection with the death of 14-year-old girl who was publicly lashed under a Sharia Law judgement. It's a horrific story and one that does not show either Bangladesh or Sharia law (and by extension Islam) in a positive light, so the BBC news report ends thus: 'Nearly 90% of Bangladesh's estimated 160 million population are Muslims, most of whom practise a moderate version of Islam.'
Why add that note other than as a sop to the many Bangladeshis who have made their homes in London and whom the BBC do not want to upset; they being, seemingly like most of the BBC, loyal Labour voters and supporters of Islam over other religions.
