Glenrothes and the BBC

I woke this morning, turned on the radio and it was all of 10 seconds before I worked out that Labour had held Glenrothes. The sheer happiness in the tone of the Today presenter was obvious as he pointed out how important the by-election had been, how a bad result could have brought up more questions about Gordon Brown's position etc. etc. etc. As each problem if Labour lost was explained it became obvious that defeat had been averted and so (logically incorrectly) the opposite was true.

Labour have held a safe seat with a much reduced majority BUT "the Labour/BBC narrative holds - Gordon Brown is in control, leading the world through these troubled economic times, none of the recession is his fault and all will be fine if we stick with experience and a serious man. Lies and spin of course, but in the hands of men such as Mandelson and Campbell powerful weapons.
