The US Senate

I will tackle the disaster of the upcoming Obama presidency later, in the meantime I see that the Senate is currently standing 54:40 to the Democrats. With six seats to be announced the US is in an interesting position, if all fall to the Democrats then there will be no practical opposition possible to the will of Obama and the Democrats - the US Constitution itself might not be safe...

The Senate looks like breaking down 58:42, with Joe Lieberman returning to the Democrat fold after supporting John McCain that would be 59:41. With the two Maine Republican Senators likely to be persuadable to vote Democrat on many issues, the 60 seat majority might be there for all but the most controversial subjects.

Is that scaremongering I smell?

Nope, not scaremongering just expressing a real fear. We will see what happens in the Senate elections. It looks as though the Democrats will reach 58, 59 if Joe Lieberman stays a Democrat (he backed McCain rather than Obama).
