BBC news management

The BBC web site front page is giving top billing to:
"Barack Obama to open new US era
Millions gather in the US capital to see Barack Obama sworn in as America's 44th president - and its first African-American leader.
Obama's day of pageantry
World has 'high hopes'
High security for inauguration
Your inauguration videos
Obama inauguration maps
Crowds gather for ceremony"

Second and third leasds are:
"Gaza rebuild 'to cost billions'
Rebuilding the Gaza Strip after Israel's devastating offensive will cost billions of dollars, the United Nations warns."

and

"Big fall in UK inflation to 3.1%
The cut in VAT helps to push UK inflation down in December to 3.1% from November's rate of 4.1%."

The Other Top Stories are:

"Bank shares recover some ground
Troops 'in need of longer breaks'
Rape link to missing girl suspect
Protests grow over MP expense bid
Call for more male nursery staff
Sex smell lures 'vampire' to doom"

The BBC can no find space to report that the UK currency is in freefall, it has dropped below $1.40 and €1.08. Sterling is being devalued almost daily and the BBC ignore the story.

Even on the Business home page the Sterling story ranks only third:
"Bank woes push pound below $1.40 - Continued concerns about the health of the UK banking sector cause sterling to hit its lowest level against the dollar since 2001."

Can you imagine the coverage if this had been a Conservative government presiding over the collapse of the UK economy and the impoverishment of every person in the UK without a well paid public sector job with a fat publicly funded final salary pension scheme? Why are the BBC not reporting this story? Could it be because they are first protecting their friends in the Labour government, second because they are too pre-occupied with reporting the Obamamessiah's inauguration and thirdly because they too have well paid public sector jobs with a fat publicly funded final salary pension scheme.
