"The cost of raising a child has passed £200,000 for the first time... The figure equates to £800 a month and is a shocking reminder to parents of the financial burden of providing for a child until the age of 21.£200,000 is an incredible amount per child just an average; it does make me wonder how much certain friends will end up spending once private schools, university educations, ski trips, school trips, cars tec. etc. are factored in. It could be a very scary figure but not one that affects me directly I am glad to report.
The costs have increased 4 per cent to £201,000 since last year and are 43 per cent higher than in 2003 when the annual survey was first carried out by insurer LV=."

Don't you think these are Mickey Mouse figures. At £800 per month someone on the average wage of £2200 per month with 2 children has no money at all to live on when you take out Tax and National Insurance.
Having brought up 3 children I can tell you it's a lot less than they say!
I think that's why it's called an average; some more, some less, this is the average.
There are numerous 'averages'. The trick is to find just the one to support your figures while letting the genpub, who are, in the main, mathematically illiterate, draw their own conclusions; that way, you can always say you 'didn't mean it that way'.
The figure you quote is really quite absurd as it stands, and I suspect you know it. It may be a temptation to use any stick to beat a dog, but some temptations are better not yielded to.
If you believe it change the name of your blog. You are a sheep!
