Barack Obama - Compare and Contrast

2009 per the BBC:
'US President Barack Obama is resisting pressure to side with Iran's opposition as mass protests continue over the nation's disputed presidential poll.....

"It is not productive, given the history of US and Iranian relations to be seen as meddling in Iranian elections"

2011 per the BBC:
'US President Barack Obama has condemned the violence in Egypt and urged President Hosni Mubarak to heed the call of the people for an orderly transition of power which must "begin now".

After tens of thousands of protesters attended a "day of departure" rally in Tahrir Square in Cairo on Friday, Mr Obama said "we oppose violence as a response to this crisis".

He added: "We want to see this moment of turmoil turn into a moment of opportunity".'

The difference is that Obama pays for much of the Egyptian army and can call some of the shots. He has no leverage over Iran, so any "support" for dissidents would have little result.
