So what is happening in India, until recently the land of arranged marriages and virgin brides? Is the new young Indian middle class now living away from home in large cities, working in call centres, programming factories and the media, looking for adventure outside of the constraints of the old ways? Is the new technology of the internet allowing/encouraging the youth of India to consume pornography as in so much of the West and what will that mean for the social structure in India?

Of course explicit sexuality has long been a part of Indian culture, a visit to many Hindu temples will make you aware of that and in rural India many folk songs and religious festivals were brimming with (sometimes quite explicit) sexuality.  Maybe the move to towns initially resulted in isolation from the former close community and so an evolution of more repressive attitudes. Maybe the more recent, more significant urbanisation has lead to larger segments of Indian society seeking out new outlets for their sexual interest and found it in the shape of the internet,

I don't know the answers to the above questions but I will be very interested to find out over the coming years what happens to the largest democracy in the world and the best hope for democracy and reason over the forces of tyranny and irrationality.
