The BBC are reporting as their second lead that "A Tory Parliamentary candidate who said Enoch Powell was "right" on immigration will be asked to explain himself to the party's chairman later." "Peter Hain, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, said the Conservatives should "get rid of this candidate" to prove they are committed to equal opportunities. "This Conservative candidate really exposes the racist underbelly of the Tory party," he told the BBC."
I see the BBC are happy to use Tory and Conservative in this instance, unlike in their coverage of the Labour Minister Liam Byrne.
Why the difference, I wonder?
For more on Enoch Powells's so called "rivers of blood" speech, take a look at the Wikipedia entry for that speech, including the unsurprising news that he didn't actually predict or even say "rivers of blood".
