It seems as though even the EU have worked out that Gordon Brown has cocked up the UK economy now. The UK budget deficit is about to exceed 3% and so the European Commission is to start disciplinary proceedings against the UK for breaching its economic rules.
The disciplinary proceedings are a formal warning to curb borrowing, cut spending or both.
In a frankly laughable response, the Treasury has rejected the rebuke, saying its policies remain "prudent".
