BBC double standards

The BBC covered the story of "Tory" Matthew Lewis's tasteless fancy dress choice with big stories and much shock-horror. The news that Derek Hatton (ex-Labour council leader) has said (re Lady Thatcher) that "It's a shame she was born." and that "Thatcher's mother should have believed in abortion" seems to have gone unreported by the BBC.

No doubt the BBC would say it is of no importance as Derek Hatton was expelled from the Labour Party in 1986. True but then the end of the Mail's article might prove a counterweight to that argument:
"In a recent interview with the Liverpool Daily Post, he expressed his strong ambition to be a Liverpool MP and suggested he may stand as a Labour candidate.

...

A Labour Party spokesman last night refused to comment on Mr Hatton's remarks and said he could not reveal if he was a member of the party."

Will the BBC investigate this angle? Of course not.
