The US army's high command has placed Mexico alongside Pakistan as a possible failed state of the future. America, which shares a 2,000 mile border with Mexico, would be the obvious destination for massive refugee flows if its neighbour descended into civil war.
Mexico's President Calderon has deployed Mexico's army in a new offensive against organised crime. This battle has claimed the lives of 5,367 members of the security forces or suspected criminals in the last year alone.
So that's Mexico at risk of failing, that's reassuring.
What's also interesting is that here is another Country with thousands of people being killed that doesn't register on the BBC news at all. The BBC prefer to concentrate on those evil Israelis and the poor Palestinians, it's an easy to understand "narrative" and one that the BBC like to push.

You´re reading too much into the article. The US is only anticipating this scenario on account of Mexico´s proximity (if it were in Africa it would not be relevant or even register). Almost all the crime in Mexico is localised and between the bad guys and the cops / other bad guys. It´s not a bad place otherwise. Honestly!
