A potentially fascinating debate tonight at Freeword online between George "The emails extracted by a hacker from the climatic research unit at the University of East Anglia could scarcely be more damaging(1). I am now convinced that they are genuine, and I’m dismayed and deeply shaken by them" Monbiot and James Delingpole. Somehow I think that George Monbiot may have to be less dogmatic than he was before the CRU email story broke.

I think it's important to look at the actual release of the data. It seems very likely it wasn't a hacker, but someone on the inside.
It looks like data was compiled to address the FOIA request, but that internal authorities decided not to release it.
Someone thought that wrong.....
