'Could things have been any worse under a Miliband D leadership? I doubt it. Indeed, one point about the late election that those of us who write about politics have failed to express properly is just how well Labour did. Despite its being led by a monomaniacal sociopath with all the charm of a septic tank and the communication skills of a stoat, and despite having engaged in the worst act of economic mismanagement in 80 years, Labour still won 258 seats, and prevented any other party from forming an administration on its own. Just think what it might have done had it been led by a man whose only real failing was to be pictured in an unfortunate relationship with a piece of fruit. '
Simon Heffer believes that the coalition government will not last four let alone five years and that the next Labour leader could be Prime Minister by this time next year; he may well be right.
