The wrong sort of democracy

I have been musing over the panic that set in amongst the EU elite and the Europhile press when 'George' Papandreou declared that he would ask the people what they wanted to do via a referendum.

Zero Hedge has also been considering this matter and has a good take on the issue:

'If a leader in the Middle East finally gave into months of protest and decided to give the people a real say on an important issue, the Western leaders would be rejoicing. Obama would have a podium and be uttering his support for the Courage of the people who stood up and give the Arab spring his full blessing.
But if a fellow Western leader dares let his people express their wishes more directly than via “their representatives” they are all shocked and outraged.'

The Commentator has a good piece on the EU's woeful lack of democracy. Why do we keep voting for these lying pigmies? ...for a moment I forgot. We didn't.
However, re your previous article, laying out at length the true nature of most voters, is it really such a good idea to let so many drooling cretins near a voting booth?
